Alpine Peaks circle placement in Domination really needs revisiting. It is extremely lopsided, and more so in Faction drops. I hope PGI is aware.

It *should* be located at one of the production/habitat complexes. Those are useful locations.

And I think 2 teams should spawn on the same "side" of the zone e instead of on 2 opposite sides. They can have a parallel running fight to the Dom zone that way.

I mean the Dom zone e should be at one of the complexes at the age of the map, and two teams that were dropped 90° off from eachother have to close in on it, instead of 2 teams dropped 180° apart.

The map is so damn huge (and not alone in that regard) that they could set up multiple "hills" to take and multiple drop zone arrangements for each of them.

Imho, the dish placement should be in one random of 10 or so places on every map.
Finally reason to really travel to different parts of a map, not just always run to the same spot and ignore everything else.

I have a different perspective... I think the domination zone should be located at the most important military/industrial location possible for each map.

In Alpine and Polar, it should be at a developed site with buildings, since nobody cares about some random patch of snow. In Canyon Network it should be at the highway bridge, which is important transportation infrastructure. In forest colony it should be a mining site or something. In River city I think it should be the airfield.

Some maps are just undeveloped, though...

PGI really needs to start thinking about dynamic "base/circle/cap point" locations.

The maps are so stale at this point.

Enemy spotted H8 @ this map. F7 on this one.

Spawn and cap points are too predictable. Makes the maps far smaller then they should be.

The really sad part is this is the second awful domination point on Alpine.

Welcome to a patented PGI "fix"... where things are worse then before they started.

I'm sure they're aware. The question is "Do they care?"

I thought people were exaggerating how bad Alpine Domination was, though, until I had the misfortune to drop onto it a few days ago. My team: on the wrong side of the map with no light mechs at all. By the time the fastest mech on our side made it to the circle, the other team had only 12 seconds left on the timer, and all 12 enemy mechs focus fired him into oblivion.

We lost, but at least it was over really quickly.

Yes, folks, it really is that bad.

Balancing in terms of "Find two spots that have equal distance to the dish for every potential dish location."
That should be roughly one man-day work to cover 10 spots each for ALL maps in existence.

The sad thing is: You might still be right, though. :-/.

PS:
Or maybe even improve the game mode so that getting to the point faster with a lousy light Mech doesn't decide half the match. Something like multiple mechs having to be present for several minutes to transfer the data. But that would be technically logical AND tactically more interesting. Of course they can't do that ^^.

It would be nice to have the objective on a location where there is actually some cover, like one of the bases.

When you play light mechs, it's always fun when your team yells at you for not running at the Domination objective and trying to hold it for 30 seconds until the cavalry arrives, while you're dodging gauss and PPC projectiles.

"Lights! Why aren't you doing everything the assaults tell you to!!! You won't babysit escort, you won't backcap and get ambushed in conquest, and you won't run out in the open to protect a stupid circle!!!!!!11!!!1!1"

Honestly, coupled with all the light nerfs, is it any wonder why so few people play the weight class?

The hill at J7 would be a great spot for this mode. Cover for both but still plenty of opportunities to flank.

Nevermind that most fattie pilots and pubbies have no idea how lights should actually be played.

The other large open, flat, snow map also needs its domination circle moved elsewhere.
