Not necessarily directly behind.

I often want to know if I block someone's firing line and the old minimap with its legs direction indicator makes it far clearer and easier. It also doesn't help for this purpose that our recent map is more zoomed out (I think).

Not that I feel the need to get back to the old minimap, just stating what I think.

I now sometimes need to manually turn my Mechs to see if there's someone behind me.

I usually try to keep a nice distance buffer between me and allies and pick cover that no one else is standing at. It saves me from being blocked by a teammate and lets my teammate continue shooting an enemy and makes the enemy have to look at two different openings to hit one of us.

No, because I've turned around only to be shot in the back by an enemy.

I want the old minimap, period. The current one can be extremely difficult to read. We already added the directional arrow on enemy mechs back so what's the point of the new one other than to suck compared to the old one?

As for making sure no one is behind me-- it's now our job as teammates to be more picky about where we poke, and where we go. If you're behind me, I'm going to hope you can see me and adjust.

If I'm behind you, I'll promptly go somewhere else so I don't block or shoot you if I can.

If we're beside each other and you walk into an alpha from me, though? No idea. That's really situational.

The old doritos/triangles for the minimap were very important to know for the purposes of positioning... movement wasn't so important depending on the situation, but knowing where that firing line is when YOU had to move is pretty important.

Apparently we have to nerf positioning because that was too OP... at least Russ for some reason thought so.

It's so important, not just comp play, but just ANY play... but you know... these things have to go the way of teh dodo.. aka Lostech™.

I am always looking 360 (even for the enemy). The problem can be friendlies not seeing you in front, left or right. Noticed players have narrow vision. Seen friendlies walk past the enemy, right beside them while focused on enemy in front. Very disturbing knowing this.

Yes, I try to know where the general placement of friendlies is. To both avoid getting in their line of fire and to look for places I can attack what they are shooting at from a different angle.

i for one always like to have room to maneuver. if someone tries to squeeze into my spot (tehe) i will usually leave and hope the hell the sod doesn't follow me. that tells me he doesn't know what hes doing and its better to avoid that type of player.

its better that everyone has their own spot and they are all trading more or less in unison. this gives the enemy target overload and generally makes trades more fruitful.

Always. But then my kinestics is pretty good and I always watch my side vectors to see who;s there. I also try not to move into an allied 6.

Yes, checking the mini map and visually seeing weapon fire before moving into square.

The old minimap shows leg direction, but half the time mechs are shooting and moving at different direction.
Accidentally killed myself from friendly fire for not visually checking firing line.

I used to. Now I have to physically turn around to see if someone is behind me because of the travesty known as the current minimap. I'm not going to be bothered to do that and get shot in the arse.

I usually don't bother. My Gyrs and Kodiaks require me to be behind the front line, thanks to JJs and/or high mounts.

I use the current mini map, as crappy as it is. I started too late to play with the old one, but I took the time out to watch older vidoes that showed it off. I would really, really like old layout.

Moving on - I constantly look for friendly mechs behind me towards the start / middle of a match for estimating their top speed. If they are faster, I almost always turn by a good margin to not have them right behind me. Too many players have the "get out of my way!" mentality and bash your mech with theirs to brush by you. Screw that. I can go do my own thing like 20-30 meters to the side and let them do what they want.

I still use the minimap pretty effectively to keep track of my space.... but I do get tired of people parking behind me, or standing back trying to grab a kill and complaining that my Brawler CN9 needs to get out of their LoF.... despite the fact I'm the one that's been fighting that mech from the get go......

But spacial awareness is either at an all time low..or people's epeen greed jsut get the best of them... as I'm constantly having to check fire from idiot teammates walking right under my guns, even while I'm visibly blazing away.

I wish more people would try to be more aware of where there teammates are. I'm sure I've cored out many a friendly mech that's strafed in front of burning lasers. People who operate in complete disregard and face hug the enemy are the worst. In thermal and sometimes night vision it can be hard to tell if the enemy is the mech in front or behind.

This. Multiple angles on the enemy wins battles. Standing behind each other seems inefficient to me, both in outgoing firepower as well as sharing armor.

Current mini-map works well enough to take good positions on the map.

I don't check behind me because friendly fire is negative points and a friendly kill is even worse for you. It is easier for a team mate to move away from your back than for you to look behind and move.
