I've piloted just about every IS mech in the game for short periods of time leading to low stats. But I feel that this doesn't accurately show my skill. I do a lot of group que where we face some of the comp groups where I keep up with the pack. It feels like I've been penalized for playing a variety of mechs instead of staying in my best performers. Anyone else feel this way?

Dude, don't worry bout tier 5. It takes a LOT of games to progress to the next tier. On Reddit Paul I. indicated that a player could expect to play 2500 games to get to tier 2 if they had excellent games the way along. So if you aren't playing meta mechs all the time you are not going to progress to quickly.

Honestly, I bet you have a crapload more fun than the tier 1 and 2 players who always have to drop in their meta mech timberwolves.

Tiers should have their names changed to :

"I am a Clan Meta Mech Obssessive compulsive" tier (1)
"I Clan & IS Meta Mech" competitive tier (2)
"I play fun optimized mechs" regular player tier (3)
"Lets see how this works I've never tried it before" tier(4)
"I don't care about damage I want MORE FUN! FIRE ALL THE FLAMERS!" tier(5)

And yes, you are penalized for not playing a meta-TBR. Just accept the craptastic nature of that function of PSR. I accept that I am in the Tier I am because I play, almost exclusively, light mechs (meaning 90% of my games are in lights).

----- EDIT ----

OP, realize that the Tier system is not intended to promote the meta players away from you because you are somehow worse. The the Tier system is intended to remove the "You all suck NOOB SCRUB" fun-sucking win at any cost players, the "Why did you boat LRMs you stooge!" players from your game so that you don't have to deal with that crap and can just have a great game. The ranking goes Tier1: "Its work, not fun" Tier 5: "Tis' all fun ARRGRH!"

It's just a number.
But if you really care so much, raising up shouldn't be too difficult.

There aren't any prizes for being higher tier. What do you feel like the penalty for being tier 5 is?

I wouldn't sweat it. The old ELO system was cruel to some and kind to others, pitting some players against those that weren't even close to their skill level repeatedly, for better or worse, which made it difficult to accurately measure what they were capable of in some cases. I think given time this new system will land people where they belong, even if they don't start there.

You can run junk builds and mechs all day and still be tier1, look at Yoki!

It not that the number I'm in that bothers me. It the way the comunity treat those with the number. If it's damage based then that makes more sense to me. I ran the tag and narc raven long before there were rewards for doing so. The others reason for my low stats is impatience and aggression. Can't stand stationary poke wars and Nasscar. In the end my true issue is the community's reaction towards low tier players.

Like said, it's just a number. The important question is "Are you having fun/did you have fun playing all those different mechs?"

If the answer is yes there really isn't any issue now is there?

The only thing that could vex you is that you feel that other pilots in your matches are letting you down. Derping out, just playing in a plain badly manner etc. Want to get away from such occurences? Pick a few mechs you're good with and keep on playing those to climb higher on the tier ladder.

If you are having fun running the mechs you want when you want to, I would not worry about Tier.

play more games if you are not bad you still need like 1500 games plyed since beginning 2015 to rise in tier.

Tier five must be great! You can get away with running a LRM 10, AC/2 and Flamer all on the same 'mech. That's not so bad! You can have FUN! There is no expectation of carrying.

Don't be mad at yourself unless you want to compete with the big boys. You have the greatest gift of all--the matchmaker will shine in your favor and you can play for the joy of stompy robots.

Just smile and ignore the negativity. That's the best we can do, especially over the internet. And as for the Nas'mech phenomenon, I can relate to how annoying it can be, and I too get impatient and play too aggressive in quick drop matches. I've learned to move on and play the next match.

And I'm glad we seem to have one of the better gaming communities out there, even with all of the drama, sarcasm and satire that one can read around here.

What are the target damage numbers by weight class? I know they've changed since the days of eight mans. In those days I had a 2.0 in my atlas DDC. Maybe I need to readjust my scale for good damage.

I don't believe there is any weight class distinction anymore.
