I was just curious if the developers of this game are aware of how they could reach a broader user base that happens to have metered or not unlimited data connections..

The fact you have to stay connected to a server after you die is killing my data, its forcing me to use more data that could be used to enjoy my next match or more matches by not having to view the remainder of that match.

This it two fold as well, one major complaint everyone has about MWO is that it takes so long from match to match.. This would speed up your actual playing of the game.

Has any of this been considered or is the game possibly going to allow you to leave a match where you have already died and get credit for the match in the future? my data cap would love to know.

I have often thought the same about internet advertising and autoplay youtube videos. The fact that it eats my bandwidth so they can play some irrelevant rubbish about something im never going to buy always strikes me as wrong.

An add blocker helps with that, as long as I am on my laptop or desk top, I never see youtube adverts.

If you use Opera, Firefox, or Chrome, you can get an extension that kills autoplay.

As for OP, it's an online multiplayer game with a heavy out of combat component. Disconnecting the client from game servers every time a match ends is impractical.

And... wait, we don't get credit for matches we die and leave? I don't think that's true... Though an after match review, like WoT provides, that can be accessed in the MechLab even if you left before the match ended, would be greatly appreciuated (Though I don't leave matches anymore, personally).

so your saying that you do get credit if you leave or exit a match after death..? I tend to watch most matches through, but I would probably no do so if I have the option not to and still get game credit.. yeah a after summery would be cool.

Yah, you get credit. It's just hard to tell how much because there's no report on the match.

You get credit for most of what you do, but no assists after you leave the match for example.

So, yes you can leave the match but you will see a decreased reward for doing so.

If you're metered, you really shouldn't be playing online games like this. Single player games that you buy on physical media would make more sense.

Yes on one hand your correct, I have more than one internet connection option though I usually play on access points that are unlimited however when I'm working I never know where I will be. There are many people north of where I live that only have satellite internet which has a 10 or if you pay more 20gb hard cap. I happen to like playing this game, there are a lot of people playing that I can assure you have a cap. Even for the folks that don't know they have a cap, for example comcast has a soft 250gb cap.. they can get grouchy if you exceed it though.

You can disconnect immediately after you die and grab a new mech to start the next match... its what I do whenever I am grinding Mechs to master and/or cbills, so basically whenever I am playing.

I had Cox get super pissed at me for burning through 400g in 3 weeks... and they cut my cable, ended up getting 3 months credit when I went down there and raised such a storm about it. Never had them bother me again... especially since their service is so crappy anyways.

Complaining about data usage in a F2P MMO is like complaining about getting wet in the ocean. It'd be unreasonable to ask for it to be different.

league of legends eats 20-30mb per 40-50min match, wot eats 10-15mb per hour.
i highly doubt mwo eats more then those games per hour.

if you're crying about 10-30mb per hour usage, then why even play lol. cause that amount is super low.

Think of all the money you're saving by living in rural places or third world countries though. It more than makes up for the data costs from playing MWO on satellite or metered internet. Posted Image

1st . Don't be afraid to test things out and see for yourself. But yes, you can exit after your mech is destroyed, you will get all the credits and no penalty. You poor gamer, you have been sitting through all that. lol :o

2nd *If this does not apply to you > disregard. PEOPLE > fight recently imposed data caps by internet providers. Go file consumer protection complaint at least. Gonna go start a new topic on this :) laters

mwo works fine on other wireless internet technologies
my LTE only has 20 extra ms for ping when compared to my FTTH home internet.

It doesn't apply all the time, now that I know i can exit and still get creds I will start doing that I really didn't know how that worked fully. Games need to be optimized to use little data, that's nothing new. I was simply looking for ways to maximize my data usage. For example I worked out in the oil fields of ND and needed to run off of a hot spot, only provider there for my sites is verizon and I just made it work. expensive? sure, did it work yes. Was I counting bytes to see how much data it took me to play diablo 3 absolutely. I would get updates at taco johns and then stream off of my hot spot. Now I am looking into driving semi and again will be relying on verizon for my data needs and counting bytes.

You people with high speed internet access are oblivious to the fact that most of the world does not have a reliable data connection option other than cellular to fill gaps and huge areas where that doesn't even work. You would be surprised living 10 min out of town here you have no internet options in places.. its best to use cellular there.

I was paying 100$ a month for 10GB verizon jet pack, its not cheap but it gave me sanity.

yes cellular ping times can be great, definitely good enough connection on 4gLTE to game anything its just a matter of data caps.

I'd expect satellite to be a lot slower though...

I did also once accidentally play an online FPS using my 3G phone as a wifi hotspot (broadband had crapped out earlier). I was astonished by how small the difference was, although it was noticable.

I had no idea so many people are playing on data usage limited connections. I feel like we're going backwards in this regard ... About five years ago I used to get unlimited cell phone data transfer for 10 euro a month. I'd run big downloads through that because it was faster than my broadband at the time. But even here deals like that are now long gone.

No one plays via satellite connection. It isn't even possible to do so. Literally doesn't exist.
