The P-Hova Prime (Jay-Z would be proud)

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...10772ee22adf9c7

Tried running the old nova prime build on this to avoid the ghost heat of all medium's or all small's, this does the job very well and then some.

I think this should be one of the ECM variants. Lots of good suggestions above. AFTER the arm buffs, I prefer the PXH-2, as I dislike dividing the weapons between arms and torso when there's just one weapon in the torso. If the PXH-1B could put both of those PPC's on the shoulder, I'd run it all day long.

Anyway, here's my take, PXH-2 with XL300, 12 DHS, 2xLL in one arm, 3xML in the other. I.e. stealthy and mobile mid-range poker, very versatile for pugging.

PXH-2

It even keeps the essential lore flavour of the Phoenix Hawk pretty well (yeah, I'm one of those people) with the LL/ML mix. Basically a MWO-min-maxed PXH-1D.

Too many PHX-1B builds using ERL-lasers & not enough heat sinks. I have a lot of fun with 3xLL Centurion-9AL & Hunchback-4P. A Phoenix Hawk-1B with the same loadout gains ECM, speed & jump jets; loses survivability & heat sinks.

The problem with Phoenix Hawks is that their heat management is, to be frank, quite meh. Machine guns don't cut it. But there's one other ballistic weapon my builds seem to gravitate towards as of late.

The end result is the mutant stepchild of a Phoenix Hawk and an Enforcer - and suprisingly effective. I give you... Morrigan: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a20fdaae0ce1195

6-ML, 6 JJ, ECM, XL-310
Makes the P-Hawk very agile, and evasive with enough firepower to strike at close-mid range. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...3a3563f5135d22a

3 Large Pulse Lasers, MASC
- Fast enough to keep up with / away from most Clan Heavy 'mechs
- Pretty cool running
- Can Alpha
- There will finally be a Trial 'mech with MASC
- Not too much back armour, but more than usual, to help new players

The shadow cats have long been trial mechs and they all have masc.

Do new players know about ghost heat though? So they won't alpha all the time and get the heat penalty?

generally not, and yet countless submissions ignore that (in a few cases, spectacularly).

What better way to learn? After 1 overheat death form Alpha Striking, anyone paying the slightest bit of attention will not do it again.

That's not how a newbie's mind works. If an alpha will cause you to blow, chances are the newbie will assume it's some kind of cheat employed by the opposing side.

Perhaps I play too many video games then (it has been suggested), but I find failure is generally the best tutor. One would hope said 'sploded newbie will ask in chat what the heck just happened and some kind soul will tell them. I know, I am likely asking too much Posted Image

I suppose it all depends on how new they are to games in general. If MWO is their first ever video game? Yeah, overheat suicide will not even enter their head as a possibility. If they're played an MW title or other BT property before? Easy peasy. Somewhere in between? Hard to say.

Reduced leg armor for someone that fights lights is really not a great idea. Your speed sets you up for a fast harasser light type roll. Lights go for each others legs most of the time.

I'm a fairly new player who has just purchased a Phoenix Hawk PXH-1B and have been having a lot of success with this build:

PXH-1B

Before you judge, I know it's unorthodox, but the whole scheme works well together.

1x ER-PPC (RT)
2x MLasers
2x Machine guns (1 1/2 Ton Ammo)
ECM
TAG
280XL Engine
6x JJ

Throw a UAV on this thing and you've got a beast of a scout that can also hold it's own if you don't try to stand toe to toe (Stick and move, baby). And say what you will about the rear Armour, it's saved my *** bailing out of the kind of bad situations us newbies find ourselves in.

Again, bearing in mind that these are for new players, primarily, I submit the PXH-3S Proposed Trial Mech.

Why?
  • 280 XL plus MASC makes this a highly mobile sniper that requires a little more thought than the broadly loathed ECM snipers (Shadow Cat, Raven, etc.).
  • Long Range is the thing right now. I feel that ERLLs are more newbie friendly than PPCs and have similar capabilities.
  • Even with the hot firing ERLLs, this retains decent heat management. That's sorely lacking in some of the current trial mechs.
  • 4 JJs should be sufficient to get just about anywhere you might want to go.
  • Recent MG buffs make them a deadly late game weapon. If the fight gets too close or you're running too hot, a couple of MGs can help you score the kill.
I would expect the play of this mech to feel similar to a Shadow Cat. I would have included another energy weapon in the MG arm, but in the interest of newer players, I'm trying to limit it to two firing groups.
