Making The Kdk-3 A Champion Mech Will Be A Mistake

1. This is a grindy, grindhard, grindfultastic game. Champion builds help new players get the xp they need and the special steam variants help the new guy get the money he will need...which is a lot.
2. The mechs we are getting new players to use should not be crap. Not if you want them to have fun and stick around. The last round of IS champion mech was almost masochistic. The best of them being the Spider which would require a new guy to know it was a clean up crit mech.... how many new guys even know what that means as they are charging to one on one the Arctic Cheetah and getting destroyed???
3. If you like this game, you should want PGI to succeed. For them to do this they need a showcase of what fun this game can be especially when you are pushing new players towards having a bit of success.
4. XP and Cbill bonuses do not give anyone an unfair advantage. Some guy running around in a cbill boosted mech dies just as easily as the non cbill boosted mech.

Do people still TK gold mechs at the beginning of the match? I heard that was a thing, but I've never seen a gold mech so I'm not sure if it still is.
never ever saw this happening, so it might be a myth of some low elo/tier palyers of ultimate saltiness. Basically like a 2 horned unicorn to be foufn amongst unicorns.

This is a free to play game and paying for mechs that allow you to grind a little bit less is to be expected. That's basically the "free to play" business model.
That being said, I hope that MWO is the last free to play game I ever play. I hate the free to play business model and the only reason I am playing this one is because it is MechWarrior.
I'd much rather pay $80 (or whatever) for a game up front.

Thank you for the correction, I will edit post accordingly. That being said, a XP bonus is still an advantage, one that the KDK-3 doesn't need.
So many levels of being wrong, let me explain:
XP Bonuses are not an advantage, and even in the way they are a boon to the player they are not nearly as useful in the same way that CBill bonuses are. This is because once you've mastered the mech (which relatively speaking, doesn't take long at all even without XP bonuses), the remainder of the time played in the mech that XP gained is stuck in cash only GXP conversion limbo.
Even using the term "advantage" is completely incorrect, as all it does it decrease the time it takes for the player who own it to do something with it. There's no in-game advantage of it when played against other players, and that is the only kind of advantage that people who make games should be concerned about.

not sure if that happens because of goldmech or just derp, because I get shot too in non gold mechs as well. Some people are just always hiding behind you and shooting at anything never caring where you were walking to.

The real question is whether people were shooting him in the back because he's in a gold mech, and he just put Brony on his back as an in game joke, or whether he actually (And foolishly) put that on there because he wants people to know about his allegiances and now that's why he's getting shot.

We actually had a group of 3 Gold timbies at one point (Flyby one of them)
We didn't experience any hate, but group queue tends to have a higher standard, troll groups aside
All we had to do was protect the Goldilocks

Whether or not gold mechs do get TKed in solo queue, I find it unsurprising that group queue would be largely immune to such behavior. Everyone you're playing with is obvious predisposed to teamplay.

The point is in the new skill system, if it will be a very long grind to min max a mech tree (altough Russ reassured it won't be and numbers in the presentation were placeholders), having an xp boosted version for a new player is a pretty good perk, which might give it a look of a "must buy" thing, it's just a bit annoying and not the most moral thing.
The "grind" was confirmed to be comparable to max a mech as it is now.
I have champion mechs (couple prizes) and they in no way are better then "hero" mechs with a c-bill bonus.
This thread is like a child's tantrum, no real point but it's entertaining.

two of the Mechs are the same
yeah yeah I was dumb ha ha you got me lol (good luck getting me to buy anything else)
so if I was going to make a Mech that new players could buy with MC
this is the KDK I would try to sell
why is more the equipment you get
1Jump jets
2 targeting computer
3 clan active probe
4 heat sinks
5 Streak 6
6 ultra AC 20 (cost 960,000 c-bills)
7 Clan MP lasers
8 Clan SP lasers
some one that buys that Mech will walk away with "what a great buy, look all the stuff I got"
it would boost a good relationship with PGI and its new customer

If it were cbills then it'd be worth something, but IMO an XP boost on a gundam is pointless and never worth paying a premium over a normal baseline gundam.

Used to play with a guy with a gold DWF. Got teased but not shot. I think it's overstated.
It was a thing years ago but it died off within a couple days to just being a joke... but it was happening in QP & Group play both. Misguided anger that got directed at the people who bought the Gold packages for some reason... but there were a couple times I remember where groups within the same team fought each other about someone killing one group members (G) mech when they were first released. Just "Leg 'Em & Leave 'Em" is what I say...

I only take my gold out sometimes. I don't get TKed but I do get focused hard by the enemy team.
I guess some people really want to be able to say "Yea...I killed a gold mech once"
In all honestly I prefer regular camo over the gold plating.

One inch shiny bars on your helmet get you focused fired in real life. I can only assume that looking like a 15 meter tall Rolex has a similar, if not more pronounced, effect.
