butcaniplzhavemyuberGoliath? Kthxbai.

EDIT: Edited to reflect a more time period accurate mech.

No, because the ZPH-1 Tarantula wasn't produced until 3054.

Hmm... I see. Sarna didn't list the year so I prayed that it would be in the time period.

Yes, and the next Tarantula variant didn't come out until 3060.

For the 3 quad-walker 'Mechs that existed prior to 3050:
  • SCP-1N Scorpoin - On the unseen list (but from Dougram, not Macross), reseen artwork or MW:O style redesign could make an appearance, only one variant in 3049 could pose a problem
  • GOL-1H Goliath - On the unseen list (but from Dougram, not Macross), reseen artwork or MW:O style redesign could make an appearance, only one variant in 3049 could pose a problem
  • XNT-3O Xanthos - Extinct after the First Succession War, not produced again until 3074

What do you mean could pose a problem?

I'd love to see tripodals. Unfortunately Ares is 78 years away...

He means the original artwork related to the Mech design was created and owned out-of-house in relation to FASA and the latter had to license the art from the former. When, further down the road, grumblings about the legitimacy of some of FASA's art licenses came into question, they simply dumped ANY out-of-house appearances for fear of exhausting MORE time and money in the courts (they'd just lost a suit against another company that rather blatantly ripped off their Clan Mech designs). Later they got some redesigned art to bring the 'Unseen' Mechs back, but Project Phoenix had a mixed response in the community at best.

So, there exists the risk - especially with the draconian 'guilty until proven innocent' behaviour surrounding the DCMA - that using any 'questionable' provenance Mechs might result in MWO getting a Cease & Desist order.

Now PGI have NOT SAID "NO" when people asked about getting any of the Unseen, so it may well be that they've got plans to contact the creators of the original source art and/or the people currently licensing said art to either license/sub-license the designs (and then have Flying Debris do his own take on said designs), but that's probably something better left well after launch, once they've got a little less workload once things are up and running. ;)

TL;DR? Probably, but not for launch. :P

The Ares is the dumbest thing and I don't see how it would even be able to run. I hope whoever designed it immediately lost his job when he presented the finished concept.

Quadruped mechs have unique benefits in the tabletop game (to offset the drawback of mounting fewer weapons) but I don't see how these could translate into MWO. They're a cool idea, and I'm sure Flyingdebris could make a Tarantula look fantastic, but it doesn't seem worth the additional workload of creating new skeletons and animations just to get a few subpar mechs into the game.

Assault class Mechs do not run, maybe a light jog at best. An assault class is just to heavy normally. but back to topic.

I would love to see more variate in the Mech selection, but my Marauder is on the Unseen list as well so it seems i have a wait ahead of me. :)

You've got assault mechs capable of running (that's what the tabletop game calls it!) at 86 km/h, which seems fast enough to call it "running". According to Sarna the Ares has a top speed of a blistering 28 km/h, which means a fit human could almost outrun it. Due to its moronic leg configuration it would also be the most awkward-looking 28 km/h you'd ever see. It's just a terrible, terrible design that perfectly encapsulates everything wrong with that era of the BT franchise.

I love how you're totaly ripping on the Ares yet don't even realize that it's main design concept was to basically act as a forward command mech and wasn't designed to run or even blow the living hell out of everything it sees. Even then, it was basically an experiment to see if they could push the bounds of current limitations, which they did with moderate success.

Well you're pretty cool -.-

"Hey guys! We made a .50 caliber SMG because we wanted to try! I mean, you can't really go rambo with it and we don't expect you to be able to walk into the fray of combat with it. But it's kinda cool."
"It's dumb! Go die!"
