Combined with PGI's approach to balancing average skill in a system where the majority of that skill can change locations as fast as they throw out patches, and you get this crap...

I totally said that would happen, but who cares, soon 40% heat penalty for clanmechs to adress balance issues. Thats totally what FW needs.

Being a clanner is not about having OP mechs it's about being so damn mean, tenacious, unyielding and having the attitude of a rhino, you see a mountain and attack, you don't care its a mountain you just keep smashing at it, each speck of dust that falls reduces the mountain till to a sand pile and then you attack the sand pile.
Don't have that attitude then sell up your mechs and go to the I.S. or better yet go play tetris or something, you don't belong in the clans.

or be a merc and gather people to be the mountain yourself.
The issue in FW balance is those that are the mountains and others complaining about the mountains forcing PGI to balance a faction based on where the mountain moved to. But this will never lead to any proper balance. It's wasting ressources on PGI's end to balance something that just swaps whenever it wants to force the next rebalance..

I love this quote - there are players with the mindset of true clanners. On these forums it´s obvious those are the minority though
Right now I am envisioning a clanner crying out the mountain isn´t made of sandstone anymore each time he/she hits a pebble.
"240/265 tons unbearable!", "IS OP because they SHOULD be weaker by lore!", "The Timber is unplayable since first nerf in Beta1!"...

not even with negative quirks was the timber ever a bad mech, or worse cosidering it "unplayable". There is really a strange crowd of people where I wish we had a spectator mode for to watch how they play.

The +burn duration penalties to Timber and stormcrow omnipods definitely made certain builds unplayable. Remember CERLLightsabers and how stupid that was. It wasn't until after the release of the Ebon Jag (with no cooldown or duration penalties) that the Timber and crow got unnerfed

and? no one uses CERLL today anyways because of burn durations, so those quirks made some builds not work, but theres like 1000+ builds not working on various mechs. Some builds not working doesn't actually makes the entire mech unplayable, the LPL + CERML build always worked form the entire beginning until today no matter what they changed. the onyl thing that disappeared was the 2lpl 5 CERML builds when they nerfed the CERML to get + heat. and the builds stick now wiht 4 CERML isnetad of 5.

Have you wandered into FW lately? 4xCERLL timbers/hellbringers exist, 2lpl/5ml timbers/ebons are fairly common, and 2lpl/6ml marauder IIc/ebon jags on cold maps are extremely common. People adapted their timbers in the +burn duration phase by using single laser arms vs 2 lasers etc, as an attempt to minimize an un-needed nerf. (When I say common, I mean they are common among effective builds, they still pale in comparison to lrm boats and generally ineffective builds)
