Instead of having a set tonnage pool, have a limit to the number of mechs per weight class, namely heavies and assaults.

Example limits:

2 man: no limits, like now

3 man: 2 assaults, no other limits

4 man: 1 assault, 2 heavies, no other limits... you get the trend by now, I hope

5 man: 1 assault, 2 heavies

6 man: 1 assault, 2 heavies, 2 mediums

7 man: 1 assault, 2 heavies, 3 mediums

8 man: 1 assault, 2 heavies, 3 mediums

9 man: 1 assault, 2 heavies, 3 mediums

10 man: 0 assaults, 4 heavies, 3 mediums (logic-- these will always be filled in by a 2 man group which almost always bring 2 assaults)

11 man: 1337 spiders with 6 mgs each

12 man: 1 assault, 4 heavies, 3 mediums

This allows for more diverse teams and less frustrations ("We're over 5 tons! Game over!" drama) while still limiting the overall tonnage. But honestly, limiting everyone to crabs is kind of dumb.

I really see very few good groups worrying about this. They all run 9 and 3 and sync drop, or just run 6-9 and get accused of sync dropping.

it is the newer players who have some gaming experience and want to move up and try to play a group of 2-4 lights/mediums and get squashed game after game while not having a chance to learn anything.

We at (MS) delight at the chance of running 12-man Crab deck. Crabs for everyone!
