So i just bought an archer 5w and i am enjoying him even though i dont think he is "Meta"

I have him set with an XL engine 5 lrm-5's and 4 Srm-6's

I am wondering if i should have a beagle active probe on him? Not sure if it really helps with LRMs or not. does it make me lock faster or? How does the counter to ECM work?

Also if anyone wants to share their builds for the 5W i would be interested in seeing them. I am still fine tuning mine.

It stops one ECM system from broadcasting within 240M.

It does nothing to affect locks
It does not make them lock faster, that's Artemis and TAG (and NARC, but cannot stack with Artemis)

Won't help you for LRMs, the ECM counter range is 240 meters, which is mostly within the LRM's minimum range. BAP simply isn't worth it right now, for it to be useful PGI would need do something like roll the seismic sensor into it. Until then, it's a waste of tonnage and space.

A BAP will keep an ECM from completely shutting you down up close. You wont be able to fire on the ECM unit trying to block you, but it will keep your LRMs active to go shoot at something else.

That's a dubious advantage, though, as, generally, if you're in an LRM boat and an ECM mech is that close to you, you should probably be either trying to get rid of that mech with support weapons, or hauling *** to someone who can do it for you.

There are a very few select mechs I've used with a BAP and the archer is one of them. Nothing but SRMS, a command console and active probe, and target info gathering module

Instant damage readout is extremely nice and you can know where to put your SRMs right away

I always put BAP on the rare LRM boat I run unless I desperately need the tonnage. I also fit TAG if I have an energy hard point.
The increase in sensor range, target info time, targeting unpowered mechs (never used this feature to be honest), and the ability to cancel ECM in the 180m to 240m range are all useful and overall make it a worthwhile choice for some builds.

The other item it is useful for is preventing you getting jammed if an enemy ECM gets too close. Without a BAP, if an enemy ECM gets on top of you, you can't lock anything.

  • 25% increased sensor range
  • 25% decreased target info acquisition time
  • Allows targeting of unpowered 'Mechs within 120m
  • It counters 1 ECM within the range of 240360m. It works the same way as an ECM in counter mode.

Basically the entire reason I run BAP/cAP is because it makes enemy UAV's above you targetable. Makes life easier in general.

You're still screwed if you get crowded by ECM mechs in the middle of a brawl, but... those situations are fairly rare, since ECM mechs are relatively rare. It's not like 2013, when RVN-3L packs were roaming the battlefield. Most of the time, it's just a single ECM light mech attacking you or somebody near you, and then BAP is useful for either keep firing or to reveal that light mech for the rest of your team to see him on their minimap / HUD.

I always bring BAP on my LRM boats.
