I'm looking for some inventive / non-traditional SB builds. What I've been playing so far are variations of the stock build. The stock is UAC/10 + S-SRM6s + 2xMLAS. The first thing I did was drop the lasers and MASC, get Artemis, and switch UAC/10 for UAC/20 (and get more ammo, obviously). I've also tried LB20-X and SRMs instead of S-SRMs. Right now I'm running something like this.
It usually works, and I like MASC. I don't like LB20-X - it makes all the right noises and doesn't produce much heat, but it doesn't seem to actually do much damage even up close. But the biggest problem is that this build is too short-ranged. Can something different be done on this platform? Should I switch back to UAC/10 for its longer range (and faster shell velocity, I would hope)? Should I try LRMs? ... *gasp* ...

I got bored of close range brawling and having nothing to do for most of the match so I made this build.

Weaponry on it is a bit light, but it has very good range and the MASC allows it to peek, get a shot off, and get back behind cover faster than any 100 ton assault mech ever could.

There's not all too much it can do for long range other than that build and LRM boating, and even then LRMs don't do much at really long range anyway.

Why force a mech that is just about the perfect short range build into something else that will never be near as good? Go for the KDK3 if you need range and UAC's..

Because I can't win the match if the fight is over before I get there? Or, more often, if I get picked apart before I get in range?

Alright, sounds to me you are better off working on your "spookyness" rather then solve the problem in the mechlab.

The SB absolutely wrecks face with the LBX20 + 4xSRM6's, i dont understand why you want to pilot the SB when you dont want to brawl in an assault...?

+/-70km/h should even allow you to overtake most heavies... especially when you engage MASC!

That's nearly the exact same build that OP said he was currently using but wanted something different from.

Also OP, if you do end up bringing LRMs, pack dual ERPPC with it instead of the UAC, this way you can actually kill light mechs that get near you and have some really long range firepower that has no chance of jamming.

It actually works quite well and is currently one of my favorite mechs. It requires some gauss rifle timing practice (especially up close) but ultimately gives you long range options and maintains the short range wrecking power with the SRMs+A

MASC and the high mounts really let you do some good early poking with the gauss and PPC when your team is mulling around at long range.

It' not for everyone, it's not traditional, but it's something when you get the assault brawler blues...

This is close ranged again but I use this. It's basically the "meta" version but with lasers. I consider it the proper version since it uses all slots.

KDK-SB Meta Proper / wERML

Swap out mediums if you want a little range. But there will be more heat. Though it may not be and issue with how much heat this gets practically. Swap out ammo as desired. Add a half ton in if you want more armor in the legs.

KDK-SB Ranged

This is a weird ranged version. I prefer the KDK-4 for it though. In fact you might want to check the KDK-4 if you want ranged KDK.

has lrms for all the range you'll ever need, a weird setup of ac/5 and 2SPL for close range weapons.

I switch between the meta uber brawler build and one with uac10, 2 lrm 10, 2 srm6 ( stack the missiles 10-6-10 in the LT to mount the lrms higher and get a tighter srm group, 2 ermed or 2 spl I use targeting computer mk1 with lrms since it locks niticably faster

With it you have range and can still brawl like a bear when close.

Thanks for posting that build! I was looking for something more versatile than the meta loadout. Hadn't thought of using Ferro to get the extra tons to do Gauss-PPC in that way.

Hm, I actually like the look of that. I'll probably drop 2 DHS for 2 more tons of SRM ammo, but nice job!

I settled on that shortly after the mech was released and have been very happy with it. The two LPLs give enough poke that I'm not bored/useless while I close. Dropping the engine down to a 375 opens up a ton of space for a minimal loss in speed/maneuverability.

This one has 70 and hasn't even peaked
(You can put 3 c-lrm20 and a c-lrm15 if you use a standard engine, this one keeps the XL 400 but no MASC)
