I really really really hope that tanks and infantry (armored and unarmored) get added into the game eventually.

I also hope that they remain as NPCs. I'd love to see bases that we fight over being defended by turrets and having small garrisons of tanks and light vehicles. I'd love to escort lances of vehicles as they move in to attack a city. I'd love to see groups of tanks and infantry guarding important locations.

It would feel more dynamic and immersive to have that in this environment.

I do also hope we never get a chance to actually pilot any of the vehicles or play as infantry. Leave them as NPCs that add to the environment.

This is MechWarrior Online, not Tank Driver Online. It's all about the fun experience, and all that other stuff isn't fun to pilot. Nor would it be fun to be shot by NPCs during a player versus player game.

Start asking for a co-op campaign mode.

Yes, they would certainly be nice for 'themed missions' like escort missions. Some tanks and lot of support/transport vehicles that slowly move across the map and one team defens them while another tries to destroy them. This would kind of solve the AI-coding problem, as they just need to follow a pre-defined path, and it would certainly add to the overall flavor of the gameworld.

I used a Pegasus and a mine layer to defend my bases in MC and it made a huge difference in the outcome , 2 fire starters 1raven and a mine-layer would take on: 1 hunchback 2 cougars 1 fire-starter and 2 ullers 4 Saracens 5 lrm tracks and win.
You will argue the ai in those mechs was dumb but i tell you in other games where the mines where used on my mech, it made my life complicated.

lol, I find it funny how people still go on and on about how "mech's are anti everything / nothing can stand against them except another mech".

It's like they completely forgot that it was Comstar who beat the Clans at Tukayyid using COMBINED ARMS and war by attrition. They didn't play the clans, "lets epeen mech only duel and get rofl stomped by the guys with better equipment", and pretty much crushed them, except for the factions that knew better.

Tanks or vehicles (ammo truck ^^) as pets or NPCs or maybe as commanders option would be very nice...

"whose defence force is mainly tanks with only 2 or 3 Mechs"

I agree though I'm not sure the scope fo the game can really allow that nuance of the genre easily.

Maybe it is best to think of it as the moments in time where the large forces ARE meeting. Just like when we see a movie about the 2nd world war,... they aren't hours of guys digging trenches or sleeping (which is probably mostly what they did).

In the novels, I always enjoyed how a handful of mechwarriors would have to salvage a light mech to lead a militia infantry to repel a company (12 mechs). It made it seem that if you had a few mechs, you really were the most powerful force on the planet.

The one thing that I think really takes away from the genre (in all mech games) is the high level of customization. A mech is supposed to be some old relic that is held together for generations like your dad's old Chevy. To me, it should be VERY costly to customize at all, and it should need to be based on a base stock chassis, none of this upgrading an engine to go 2X as fast what the chassis was not designed for it.

Personally, I think we should all have to play stock and live with the inherent weaknesses in each IS design.

I actually completely agree, and something I'd like to point out is that atmosphere can go a long way to making or breaking a game/movie. Look at STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl, as a game from a mechanical stand point it's just kind of there, nothing special, just a hard game. But the atmosphere is so perfect, so beautifully managed, that it takes the game from being kind of mediocre to absolutely freaking amazing. Same with Amnesia The Dark Descent, it's a mechanically "meh" game and the graphics are just kind of there, but the lighting and sounds and just the general feeling make it the scariest thing in existence.

Just putting some rubble of tanks still burning, or something that's running out of control would go a long way towards building atmosphere, like there's been a battle going on for a while and the mechs are the final climctic leg of the battle, after everyone has exhausted their other options and are being forced to drastic measures. And I personally like the idea of putting tanks into the battles, maybe as pilotable craft in elimination matches after you've fallen, or for players who just want to goof off. AI tanks sounds like a good idea also, but the problem would be the development time--personally I'd work on making them, but they wouldn't be as much a priority as, say, improving mech combat and the aforementioned atmosphere problem.

I hope they keep the clans as much NPC's they can and keep any non-mech as limited support you can call in.

Playing a co-op against NPC's and be swarmed by Clan Elementals in a night fight would be damn cool.

If they want to add the clans later as players they should add them AFTER Tukkayid.

I support this plan.

Being to buy a mobile repair truck ammo truck or a mine layer would be cool.

A cool thing would be on a city map you turn down a blind alley and suddenly it swarms infantry and there flames and slanging Zeus h y rifle rounds off you wicked.

...they're only Mechs if there are other vehicles which aren't Mechs.

The BattleTech Universe has all kinds of war machines from Battle Armoured Infantry to Tanks and Hovercraft to Aircraft. There are heaps of Worlds whose defence force is mainly tanks with only 2 or 3 Mechs! Only the best of the best of elite pilots get to be MechWarriors.

If every combatant is a Mech then a Mech is not a Mech. It's just a vehicle or even worse, a player. This is why MechWarrior games need all kinds of units to get a feel for the scale and responsibility of piloting a Mech.

your argument doesn't quite work. they'd still be mechs, they just wouldn't stand out. if you were playing a tank game, would you say they weren't tanks because there aren't any mechs around?

They are still worse than mechs, thanks to the lack of hitzones etc, not because they would performe worse, but because of a gameplay decision that makes mechs the 'heroes' of the game-universe.

I play MWLL and I actually prefer driving vehicles. Smaller target and less imposing. Means mechs often under estimate you.

Hephs are great in MWLL. Using them to circle stray mechs and grind away at limbs is pretty fun!

Yeah, they still seem like mechs to me. And if they had infantry units and other vehicles it'd drive away the focus from the mechs. And then it wouldn't be mechwarrior. It'd just be 12v12 combat that happens to include mechs.

Maybe the satisfaction lost is that you're not the biggest thing on the battlefield, although at least you've still got the trees to compare yourself too.

One can get a feeling of scale without other units varieties being around. I'm pretty certain that after stepping over some Cadillac sized rocks, or through a stand of mature cedar trees, or wander past a two-story building that you can look over, you'll probably get an understanding that you are in a 'Mech.
