My current definition of Potato is a slow computer.
Lately I have been seeing it used in other ways including the quality of the player... wtf?

We have already butchered the term Meta:
(referring to all the available information on itself and its environment)

So, what does Potato mean today?

I vote we keep it a slow, Old or Cheap computer.

A slow/bad player. The only real difference is the specific noun it refers to (player instead of computer).

A potato player is pretty much the same as a potato computer - Feeble. It can be applied to all bad players, but usually, it's aimed more towards the kind of players who are willfully bad - The ones who, either because they are unable, or unwilling, just cannot get better. If a player consistently scores poorly, and then meets every suggestion or tip with a litany of excuses and refusals, they are a potato - Bad players who are willing to learn are usually not considered such.

I concur, this drudgery, or I should say the air it gives off when one player uses the term is silly. It's almost as if it is used a scapegoat when they perform poorly, only to appear like a condescending ninny.

"Ugh, why is that my team is always made up of potatoes?"
" Oh man, some major potatoes today"
"Looked at the weather, looks like we are in for a lot of potato"
"You say potato, I say PSR"

Just saying, a baby spud dies everytime you use that word.

A potato is a LRM boat assault that sits in F8 on Grim Plexus Domination while a BSW on his team tries to hold the center but gets surrounded and shanked from both sides.

Err i mean, yea a potato can either be a bad player or slow computer. It is also a food. Its weird how one word can have different meanings...

Disclaimer: The LRM boat detail was embellished, I meant no malice towards LRMs in this post, just annoyed with how people have been playing domination on Grim Plexus from the F8 side.

That seems strangely specific. Need a hug?

Why are there so many potato threads recently? There seems to be one or two threads asking, commenting or questioning the skill (lack thereof) of potatoes! They're food. That's it. Go and eat some delicious potatoes.

Lol no. The details were embellished, but that essentially happened two times in a row last night. It's like seriously guys?

po·ta·to
pəˈtādō/
noun
Posted Image
1. a starchy plant tuber that is one of the most important food crops, cooked and eaten as a vegetable.

Delicious in almost any manner of preparation, hearty and capable of flourishing in near barren soil......and absolutely essential for the world food supply.

So, unless it is referring to the importance of their existence for Comp Players to Farm and sustain their Epeen.... it seems like a poor choice for comparison.

When referencing a slow computer, it makes a bit more sense, as it's origin is probably related to the Potato Battery experiments featured prominently in most grade school science fairs

Implying a computer is so weak and primitive it could be powered by said source. I suppose it has replaced the once ubiquitous usage of the term "Hamster Wheel" as a modern gaming colloquialism.

If it makes you feel any better, I was out in my LRM Catapult last night (LRM30 with SRM12 back up) and had two matches where I spent the entire match fighting below 300 meters, out-brawled assault mechs, broke 800 damage and got twice the match score of everyone on my team. So the LRM carriers are all thinking 'Why in the hell are these damn BSWs all cowards, making me hold the front line while they all have tea and snipe at max laser/AC range?'

It's rough for everyone out there.

The BSWs were probably all already dead.

As for the rest, cool story bro. I will never be impressed by someone's LRM performance. Ever.

Yah, I didn't type that up right. Wasn't intending to make it sound badass. At least one of the Atlas's I outbrawled was the weird guy (Can't remember his name, but I know it's the same guy) who insists on bringing a Single Gauss and 3 ERLLs. Not a spectacular achievement.

And they weren't, they were all really sniping. I'm not even sure with what though. Are people Gaussing it up in those things? The only BSW I've been able to actually observe since it dropped was one I hunted down in a Jester, and he was running ERLLs and Gauss too. I'm really hoping that's not what my favorite medium has been reduced to.

I really wish I owned the BSW. It was an old favorite of mine from MW3, and I have a feeling when it comes out for C-Bills I'll actually run it with non-lore builds so I can have fun in the old gal.

Well its hitboxes lend themselves to a more standoff-ish role due to it not being able to tolerate flanking (big side profile). I don't think its a good platform for Gauss-ER LL personally, but I do like the 3 AC5s.. I just wish that third hardpoint wasn't SO far back. It messes with convergence.

Yeah, I love the Bushwacker, can't wait for the C-Bill release (Well, I mean I can, and I am. You know what I mean). Even have the MC saved up for the hero (Though I think I'm reconsidering that bit, thinking on it I'm not so sure I like it).

I'm disappointed with what I'm hearing about Bushwackers being able to get R-CT killed from the front (I think I even was able to get a bit of damage in to one that way, and considering my atrocious aim, that means the spot must be huge). I really thought it would be a decent LB-X/AC10/SRM brawler.

A Triple AC/5 medium still has some appeal, though.

Honestly, I can't say I have ever found myself feeling impressed with a person's performance on a video game, pretty much ever. But if it helps you pick up chicks, get rich, etc... more power to you.

Me? I realize it's a game...and thus should be played however the individual finds it to be most fun. Fun, being subjective, is different for everyone. Crazy, right?

Pull people out of a burning building, perform CPR on an accident victim, survive firefights in the military, etc? I'll be impressed. Be the bestest in the world at clicking on a pixel?

How did you say it? Cool story, bro?

*shrugs*

never really understand the desire people have to run variations of the same build across 100 chassis..... Oh look a Mini-Meta-Marauder!

Well, I don't run Triple AC/5 on anything. So it would be novel to me.

I help University students launch satellites on rockets, helping to give those students real hands on experience developing and operating spacecraft, but I don't expect anyone on these forums to be impressed with that.

I really just meant in terms of this game, I am not impressed with LRM use ever.

But hey if you want to get all self-righteous about it, then more power to you.

Really, its posts like this, out of left field, that are just really sad. Is your life so depressing that you have to seek moral high ground on a video game forum? Pathetic, man.

Regarding the AC5 build, being able to run 3 AC5s on a medium and run 80 kph is completely unique, its one of the things that the BSW brings to this game actually.
