The best LRM mech of all time - the ARCHER! In this game-All 3. Each mech - T-Bucket, Cat and Stalker, has a very different role. The T-Bucket is a mobile missle platform designed to work in tandom with the Centurion. It will be moving quite a bit on the battlefield to bring long range fire to place the Cat and Stalker cannot reach. The Cat is a long range support mech designed to stand off an saturate a target -hopefully painted by a scout. The Stalker is an assault mech designed to hit a target as it closes or to give fire to a faster retreating mech. You forgot the Atlas with its LRM20 by the way.

I still remember fondly using a Mad Dog with 4 LRM 15s and clucking like a chicken when I tagged something.

I will say the catapult. Good armor. Jump jets 4 Med lasers. Pretty quick for a big mech. Its a solid choice. The archer is good but I take away points for no jump jets. Thats a big deal when trying to evade and bring the rain.

My my personal experience, the Catapult would be my best option for a missle base. Not only cause of hte missle hardpoints, but also its ability to get in pretty much any area with its jump jet capability, its decent armor rating, and depending on the engine speed, to keep itself out of the main fray while maintaining it proximity to the fight, if you mix in a NARC missle system with someone out in the fray, that leaves this baby totally protected while lobbing VOLLEYS of missles towards its targets from a safe place. But also with the fact that you can add lasers to the front of it so if some measly scout mech decides to go Catty Hunting, it can still hold its own close up.

It's a matter of personal preference (do you like armor, speed, volume of missiles, ammo for an extended fight, mobility what weight is your favorite class etc) and imho should be divided by weight class but, any mech carrying a NARC beacon while all/most of his buddies carry LRM is one scary missile mech.

Not considering any custom mech loadouts I like:
Light: Valkyrie VLK-QA 30tons, jump capable, LRM10 (12 reloads) medium laser, 6 tons of armor and a max speed of 86 kph. It's got mobility speed and hitting power.
Medium: Dervish DV-6m 55tons, jump capable, 2 lrm10 (12 reloads each) 2 medium laser 2 srm2 (50 reloads each), 7.5 tons of armor, max speed of 86 kph. While it has lighter armor that I would like it is fast and mobile enough to get it's firepower where you need it most and get out to do it again.
Heavy: Catapult CPLT-C1 65tons, jump capable, 2 lrm15 (8 reloads each) 4 medium laser, 10 tons of armor, max speed of 64 kph. Staying power in the armor department mobility with it's jumpjets, it's ammo load is limited but if it's run fireing one LRM rack at a time it can sustain a fight and inflict damage from places the enemy doesn't expect due to it's jump capabilities.
Assault: Stalker STK-3F 85tons, 2lrm10 (24 reloads each) 2 large laser 4 medium laser 2 srm6 (15 reloads each), 13.5 tons of armor, max speed 54kph. Good all rounder with a nice mix of potent weapons to back up it's LRM racks.

Classic/Iconic LRM mechs:
Heavy: Archer ARC-2R 70tons, 2 lrm20 (12 reloads each) 4 medium laser, 13 tons of armor, max speed of 65kph. Walking SAM pod with enough armor and ammo to be a threat for longer than the enemy wants it to be.
Assault: Longbow LGB-7Q 85tons, 2 lrm20 (12 reloads each) 2 lrm5 (12 reloads each) 2 medium laser, 14.5 tons of armor, max speed 54kph. With the same speed as an Atlas and more missiles and armor than an Archer you are a semi-mobile SAM pod

Honorable Mention (Yes it's a quad):
Assault: Goliath GOL-1H 80tons, 2 lrm10 (12 reloads each) 1 PPC 2 machine gun (200rounds of ammo), 14.5 tons of armor, max speed 76kph. You are a mobile turret, an anchor, rally and fallback point for your allies as a well armored weapons platform. (As a exception to my no customization on my list to put this model in line with the current releases for MWO I would swap the machine guns and their ammo for a pair of medium lasers as we aren't going to have infantry to worry about as far as I know.)

I'd go with the cat. Drop two of the lasers for more lrm ammo, armor, or srms. Depending on what you swap the cat can do a lot as can the others mentioned. I just like the cats' jj mobility a lot.

Don't forget to figure in the matchmaker and map as a calculation on which is the best. Also if you are solo or with friends.

Well if you pick a Catapult for your first mech and your non-founder then I guess matchmaker puts you in queue until a spot opens up for your mech. Hopefully queues arent bad if your with a buddy.

Its odd but why do I keep seeing "oh and its go jumpjets!" remarks. If your out at max range where you belong jumpjets aren't going to be doing much for you. If your jumpjetting while mediums and lights are harassing you then your just doing them a favor. I could be wrong but seems like there are just a few situations that you would benefit from jumpjets on a missile spec. I'd expect a lot of people to take a couple medium lasers so they at least have something to fight off the hard charging smaller mechs.

Of the mechs confirmed for the game, I'm surprised that you've all missed such an obvious one: Awesome-8T. 2 LRM-15's & 2 Large Lasers, massively armoured & plenty of heat sinks. Whilst we don't know which Awesome variants will be in the game (apart from the obvious PPC boat), this one is quite likely because it's 3025-tech and has radically different hardpoints to the primary design.

I get the feeling they are talking "best LRM mech in MWO" and not best LRM mech of all time.

I'm wondering what all the Bane 3 fans are going to be piloting in MW-O. Same goes for the Viking fans. You are in for a lengthy wait for your perfect LRM mech.

I would think they could find something they like once the inner sphere gets invaded. Maybe a vulture.

You may be right Kumakichi... but Lightdragon is definitely right! A friend of mine has a nickname, "Bane" Because at two local Cons he was smoked by my daughter Who was piloting the missile boat Bane!

As for the Viking, it's good... really good, but I'm not sure of it's domination. Mostly due to only having fielded 2-3 in my years and bad luck with Boom Boom of ammo. But it does have that respectable throw weight. I guess I just need to see one survive that darn Golden bee bee!

Bane 3 is a Clan second-line Mech. Primarily Jade Falcon. So it would be around in the Falcons Eire Clusters IF I remember the name for second line troops! Also IF memory serves correctly, The Bane (Kracken) was introduced in a source book prior to it's TRO debut. So IIRC it is available to the 3050 ish Falcon Touman.
