Greetings MechWarriors. Today I have a few simple ideas for how to eliminate high damage energy alpha strikes without significantly impacting ballistics or missiles. Some of the following ideas were inspired by what little good came of the Energy Draw PTS while also learning from the bad ideas.

We must operate under the following rules:
1.PPC or Gauss Rifles must be capped at 30. I'll explain how later in my proposal.
2.SRMs or LBX will have a higher cap of approximately 40, due to their spread, but will be adjusted accordingly.
3.Lasers and laser durations will be taken into account, but damage should not exceed 40 either.

The goal is to eliminate 40-58+ damage alpha strikes without significantly affecting weapon diversity or harming gameplay.

All Medium and Large Lasers will now be part of the same weapon family in Ghost Heat. This is the first and perhaps more significant change, and will close a loophole where one could combine several medium and a few large lasers at fire them all in one burst without penalty.

Exceeding 80-90% heat will slow your mech down, the hud will flicker AND the enemy will have an easier time acquiring information on your mech. Rather than a slow but ever increasing penalty for passing a certain threshold, your mech will slow down dramatically after you pass the high threshold but it can be adjusted to be lower or higher.

PPCs and Gauss cannot be fired simultaneously and Gauss cannot be used with other weapon systems. To balance this, Gauss Rifles will have triple range restored and their cooldown decreased. PPCs may also get most if not all of their velocity back.

All of these major changes, and a few minor ones will significantly change up the meta however I also have a few other, minor changes that I'd like to see tested.

4.Increase LRM velocity significantly, but require LoS or a sighter to acquire target lock.
5.Adjust burn duration for Clan Large Lasers. The C-LPL and C-ER LL burn for far too long.
6.Allow 3 PPCs to be fired without breaking Ghost Heat. That's 3 IS PPCs, not ER PPCs or C-ER PPCs.
7.Increase C-ER PPC damage to 12 and remove splash damage.
8.Adjust ALL weapon stats based on most common quirks. (I.e. the IS Large Laser is OK, but it needs 10-15% quirks on average to be a good weapon. No weapon system should be bad without quirks!)

Again, these are just a few of the ideas I have to improve balance and gameplay in general and I'd like to read what everyone else has to write in response. I am completely open to discuss or debate my proposal.

Lastly, Sir Restos the Third, I challenge you to respond to my proposal using ONLY gifs.

First. Hey, it's been too long since I've created a lengthy but well written and intelligent thread, right?

Second. You... agree with me on some points? That also hasn't happened in a while.

Third. I AM a doofus, and I'm proud of it. Wouldn't putting medium and large lasers into the same ghost heat family effectively neutralize the high energy alphas we have now, or at least lower them? (I.e. 2 IS LPL and 3-4 IS ML, instead of 3 IS LPL and 4-6 IS ML.)

Fourth. You're... mixed on preventing PPCs and Gauss Rifles from being used at the same time, at least?

Fifth. You're opposed to allowing the IS to fire 3 PPCs at a time?

Sixth. Well played. Especially the last gif.

Well, 6/8 and 5/6 aren't bad! Here's a real challenge for you. Can you, in gif form, offer a rebuttal or alternate proposal? I really don't like the splash damage, personally.

I'm going to assume the countdown is to the most epic compilation of gifs that will lead to an intelligent rebuttal AND alternative to my proposal that will EVER be witnessed on these or any other forums for the next decade.

No thank you. I will speak as one from the I love high alphas crowd. Only in quick play does this seem to be a problem. Currently TTK is just about perfect for FW drops.

Changing IS LL ghost heat limit to 4 would be nice too as clans can already shoot damage worth of 4,7 large lasers without ghost heat with 6xCERML. IS ERLL is fine as it is.
