With the upcoming skill tree being reworked, I have finished the last of my mechs ( no pre-orders incoming after Bushwacker at this time)

(shameless self promotion but a small accomplishment)

Whatever you want, I guess.

I finished all the mechs I 'wanted' to do (Nostalgia is my guide), so I double XPed a bunch on the mechs I like now to make the skill tree easier to handle when it comes. Once I had finished that, I asked the forum what I should get on the last sale, and got those for a laugh.

This is actually the second time I've asked the forum what I should do next that's turned out well. Interesting.

Anyway... I can't be bothered to watch a 7 minute video. Have you XPed every available mech chassis or something?

Yes,40 chassis, 127 variants mastered. I did speed the video up to cut it down from a 11 minute.
And i had previously planed on going through and running each mech to pay for all of its modulus, but that seems redundant now that those will be refunded back.

Based on what I've heard it doesn't sound like simply mastering mechs (that much XP gathered on a mech) is going to go that far with the new skill tree. So I'd say continue playing what you already have and continue getting that XP.

Take the double-xps on all the mechs you enjoy most, the new skill tree looks like it will be an XP sink to some extent so you'll be able to use whatever you can rack up. (Ignoring mechs that already have a surplus million XP on them of course)

I don't have any mechs with over a million XP on them... Matter a fact I'm not so sure I have any that have over 300k.

You master every variant, not just some.

Currently takes about 76k exp to master a mech, new tree you can only buy a certain amount of skills (not all). So if you get a mech up to about 100k xp or a bit higher you're prob good for anything you can buy in the new tree.

Get every single variant of every single mech up to 300k xp past Mastered. You need to do this in case you want to spec out 2-3 copies of a variant with different skills.

well Russ did say that the Grind from 0XP to fully mastered would be about the same,
but i guess we will all see when the Skill Tree PTS Drops, then i will be doing some tests, ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong. The new skill tree seems like it will make mechs less versatile. Example: if you configure your skills on a mech for long range and decided you would rather have it as a brawler. Would you have to get another mech and apply points in that direction? Basically have two of the same mechs just skilled different?

That is the general consensus, but not confirmed yet. Respec will be available, but probably for MC, so that's your alternative.

I will have absolutely no problem if that's the case.

Thanks Dino! I do see where that could make the game a little more interesting.

Pretty sure we got a confirmation that it's both C-Bills AND MC you can use for respecs, just MC keeps the node points instead of having to refill it with XP.

Ah, I probably misinterpreted - thought it would require both and thus MC was the real cost. If pure cbill respec is an option, that's not so bad.

If that is the case, that will really be asinine :( Being able to tinker with your mechs is a core part of MW. And the grind is already obscene enough, having to pay a ton of cbills and regrind xp or pay real cash to adjust your mech would be garbage :/

Agreed - I'd much prefer unlocks of skills with XP, and then you choose which nodes you want active at any given time (with a limit on how many nodes and which ones lead to others that can be active), and each node being a sidegrade rather than an upgrade.

Then you could respec at will, but you can't get something for nothing.

I think PGI is trying to make more cbill, MC, and XP sinks, which they kind of need to do. Whether its best to do that with the mechlab or not, I couldn't say. I'm not read up enough on the business end of this venture. There are probably other avenues for currency sinks and associated real money revenue that could be explored.

Whatever their final decision is I'm sure it will be their best effort to make players happy plus keep the business end going. The simple fact is the business end needs real money for the game to keep going for us to enjoy. The electric co., phone co. etc... don't take C-Bills or XP as forms of payment. I know that they can't please everyone but I'm sure they'll try. After all their lively hood depends on it. Just my 2 cents.
