After playing Overwatch on a break from MWO, I had a moment of epiphany. About just how good that command wheel that PGI made really is.
I've always had an issue with my current computer's motherboard where the mic in jack is damaged, and cannot therefore use a mic. This, obviously, results in a terrible condition where if I were to play competitively, I would be effectively handicapping my team by not being able to communicate as quickly or as effectively as those with a mic. Both PGI and Blizzard made command wheels on Overwatch and MWO respectively. But boy, is there a world of difference in how useful the two are.
Sure, there are nice things about Overwatch's context-sensitive quick chat key. It lets you acknowledge that your teammate needs healing. It lets you ask for a push on an objective. But for what it does have, MWO has more of.
Need a particular target dead? MWO's quick chat has that covered. Need to say "no" quickly, for example when asked about whether or not an area is clear, or if you require any assistance? Strangely enough, Overwatch does not have this, but MWO does. Need to call for help (not just for heals)? MWO has that covered, too.
Despite the few commands present on the command wheel, I found that it's more or less possible to play as a drop commander without a mic on QP. You can call for assistance; you can call targets, you can actually respond to questions with a quick yes or no. Simple as it is, it WORKS. It just WORKS.
Yes, there are times where PGI sometimes does things that make us scratch our heads, wondering 'why'. But for the times that they do something right, I feel it's only fair that they get some recognition. And this is one of the few times where I would legitimately congratulate them for doing it well.

Want to add that both my external sound and mobo jacks are destroyed. My usb ports are slowly deteriorating to the point where I'll have to upgrade my case so I don't lose function.
And yes the command wheel is "decent". I actually think they do a little more with it myself. Keyword "a little" since youi don't want something like that to get too complicated.

The Command wheel could use a lot more work though. The "mouse over a button" method they use is clumsy as hell and makes spotting distant targets difficult in motion.
It could also use a way to rapidly communicate your mech's status. Stuff like health, weapons status, and heat.
A rapid "cap this point" or "push now" command could also be useful.

My only real complaints are the lack of options to choose between an IS and Clan voice for shortening words, and the fact that "Target Spotted" can't be used on a location you're pointing at, and instead just mechs.

Myself I think the LFG button is the best thing since Coca Cola.
Do I get points for this post?

The command wheel is quite well done!
Now, if only the commanders/squad leaders could mark targets / nav points from it without having to jump to infomap!

Your orders are clear.
Spoiler
Anyways... But yeah, I'd just like a couple options is all. Preferably 2 male Inner Sphere pilots, 2 female Inner Sphere pilots, 2 male Clan pilots, and 2 female Clan pilots.
