I know that there have been a lot of "does this computer play this game well" questions. I'm hoping for a little help along those lines, but with a twist.
I travel for work. I can be gone up to 3 weeks every month, so I require portability.
I normally use the HDMI on my current old laptop to play MWO.
I know the game is pretty CPU heavy.
I am looking in the 500-700 dollar range.
Should I go for a portable desktop or a laptop again? I feel that a portable desktop will let me get a better CPU/GPU and more RAM than a laptop in the same price range. Really looking for the most bang for the buck since I play on an underspec laptop right now.
Any input is appreciated. Thank you.
Is something like this any good?

that is sold as a barebones PC, it needs RAM, a SSD and a copy of Windows to play MWO, you are looking at an extra $250 to get it working
looking up benchmarks that should be fine for MWO, the intel iris 470 is about as good as my nVidia Geforce 560, which will not run hiogh or very high graphics but is ok with a custom setup with med-high settings.
the CPU is fine
however the iris 580 it is about equivelent to a 5 year old mid range card from AMD or nVidia
also the PC does not mention coming with any RAM, hard or solid state drives or operating system, you will also want 8gb of ram (the minimum I would recomend), a 200gb SSC (absolute minimum I would recomend) and a copy of windows
8gb ram stick $60

16 GB ram $100

240gb SSD $100

Windows 10 64bit $95

to proplerly outfit it to play MWO reasionably well would total at minimum $865.
when you say you want a portable PC what would you define as portable, a full sized tower is not especialy heavy and could easily be put in the boot (I think that translates into US English as trunk) of most cars.

Yeah. I didn't realize I needed to add my own CPU and such.
I'm looking for something maybe slightly bigger than say an Xbox or PS4. Enough to fit in my back pack. I mostly fly for work and I don't like the idea of my PC being in checked Luggage.
Maybe something like this:

the PC in that article would run MWO fine, unfortunately I do not know enough US sites to find anything, and many of those (including the dell site) will not let me into the US version, I do know some possible workarrounds but I am afraid I do not have the time to look into this properly for you.
what I would suggest is looking for something with an I5 or I7 processor, with a non intel GPU where the second number in its designation is a 6 or higher, with at minimum 8, preferably 16GB of RAM, a SSD with at least 200GB of space and which specificly mentions coming with Windows.
if you find one post back here so I or someone else can look it over and make sure it will be OK before you spend any money

save up a little more (get into the 1000 dollar range) and your options of laptops will really open up.
Buy once, cry once.

Let me add my $0.02 to the discussion. I know it's $100 over budget. but this is probably your best bet. If you fly a lot, you don't want to travel with a desktop. They're heavy and clunky. Most don't travel well and will require fiddling with on a fairly regular basis. This laptop will play MWO (and many other current games) on high @ 1080p very well. For $800, it includes keyboard and screen. Bring a mouse and you can game wherever you find yourself. Definitely throw an HDMI cable into your bag for hotel play on the TV (if it's any good).
Good luck!

Check that little guy out. That is what I play MWO on. I replaced the HDD with a SSD and added another 4GB of memory, which bumped the overall price up about $150. Best gaming PC ever? Nope but plays MWO like a champ and is tiny.

if you like to build your own, you could use PCPartPicker, make sure you have the correct country selected.
some of the newest components may not be listed, but if you know of them you could still use PCPartPicker as a guide
ETA: thought I play with PCpartpicker, well it's over your price range, not by much
and this is what my mad brain created still need monitor, keyboard & Mouse
