By finding the best variant and boating the single most effective weapon you will have more nodes to spend on other things.

So is this an official promotion for single weapon boating?

Not more and not less than it is now with modules. But yes, modules (present) and skill tree (planned) encourages boating. Seems intended as the module system is old and was never changed to address this problem.

But I must admit that it is more "visible" in the PTS skill tree for most people. May be worse than before because of quirk changes...didn't dive into them yet.

Thats what i thought at first but then i started playing around and found if you skilled up a weapon system that would not be optimal "normally" in combination with other weapons, you could come up with some really interesting and effective builds. Even improved a Marauder IIC to the point it would out perform the current live version.

As a side note, this is good for the game and mech durability in general. Hear me out here.

They've boosted laser and UAC boating considerably. Lasers and UACs are easy to spread damage from. Structure and armor also increased heavily to help potential spreading. LRMs also made better through more competition for radar deprivation or other skills.

PPC+Gauss meta is broke up now because of it taking two weapon trees and costing much more compared to a full laser boat or energy build.
