Why punish anyone when we can have more diversity without taking away your Boat builds?

With the recent skill tree, too much can be placed in a build with only one type of weapon. Quad UACs or M. Pulse Laser builds are favored rather than having different load outs that might have energy, ballistic, and/or missile combos.

Solution: Let’s give more Skill Points (SP) to diverse builds! Posted Image

(ONLY EXAMPLE, NUMBERS SUBJECT TO CHANGE):

Let's take the example you get 5 Bonus SP for each Hard Point Type (5 for the Energy trees Only, 5 for the Missile trees Only, 5 for the Ballistic trees Only). It would look a little like this,

Let's say you have 85 stock skill points (SP) for each mech

1) You have only ONE hard point types (Lets say Energy).
-You get 5 Bonus SP to use ONLY in the ENERGY type skill trees (Like Laser and Pulse laser).

2) You have TWO hard point types (let's say Energy and Missile for now).
-You get 5 Bonus SP to use in each of those skill trees, for a total of 10 SP (5 for the energy trees and 5 for the Missile trees).

3) You have ALL THREE hard point types.
-You get 5 Bonus SP to use in each of those skill trees, for a total of 15 SP (5 for each).

These points would be the first used in those weapon trees and would be removed the same way as other SPs. This would also help a little to those who want to change the build of the mech from one weapon type to another.

Balance the SP numbers out and this would not only encourage new builds but give diverse builds a fighting chance without breaking the laser/ballistic/missile boats that some people love.

i like the idea of having 2+,3+ weapons systems given more to balance from having boating having too much of an advantage.

Has its flaws....people just try to boat mechs that have different hardpoints to get more SP. E.g. Grasshopper has a missile slot that is useless. free 5 SP

I like your idea. I think k it could be refined. You get the bonus to the hard points you have less off in order to make those more effective at less of a cost to you.....

For example the centurion A has 3 middle, 2 energy, and 1 ballistic. It would get its standard 85 points under your system but then get 5 extra points that it can only spend on energy, and again 5 extra that it can only spend on ballistic. I wouldn't give it 5 extra for the Missiles because it has the most middle hard points and as such the player is obviously going to put at least 2 middle weapons on it and throw skills at it. The energy and ballistics are more likely to be after thoughts or at least less effective and so could use the added bonus to help balance out......

Where I would seriously deviate from your suggestion is that I wouldn't give something that is a solid boat, like the thunderbolt, top dog any additional points. It has all energy hard points. It just gets a standard 85 points. Obviously it is going to invest in energy nodes. It doesn't need bonus ones

Free 5 SP? Not so because like I said above he has to use that "free" SP for the MISSILE trees only. So...not so free?

Great points RageDog. I'm all for diversity. Part of the fun of the game for me is NOT playing the meta. Hearing about someone's odd build is always amusing. It looks like the system could use some work, but isn't that always the way. Call me Mary Sunshine, but I like how PGI has tweaked things over the years I've been here. At times we moan about these adjustments, but overall it makes the game more interesting. I don't want to see 12 identical mechs on the field executing the same strategy on identical maps.

So I say, keep making changes. Tweak away, PGI, tweak away!
