MechCommander is a great game. I liked the first part more than the second though.

I am as handy with computers as an Amishman.

Download a program called Daemon Tools Lite. Use Daemon tools to create a virtual CD drive and then open the game file.

Here is another download link for the game and some patches:

I recently tried to get MechCommander Gold to run in Windows 7. Just copy the contents of the CD to your hard disk (installer won't run if you are using a 64bit Windows). Use "compatibility mode" and "run as admin" for the .exe and run the game in windowed mode (alt+enter). Full screen didn't work for me though.

MechCommander was neat, but I was terrible at it.

I do have love for MechCommanderS, though. If this game allowed someone to function in such a role (like Armored Core V's Operator, only useful) I'd be more than happy to slag whatever y'all point at.

This seems like a legit link for MC Gold. Just need to mount/burn and install the CD image and you'll be good to go.

It is legit.

Alright give me thirty minutes for it to download.

You know, do any of the game download sites have these?
I actually never played any of the MC games - never had money at the times they were popular.
I think I got to try the first one, don't recall.

He has a load of mods and missions plus the original game (MC2) no iso/mount needed.

Mech Commander in fact has an element of strategy to it that had scouts being used as scouts, heavies as heavies and so on. Very much like the spirit of what they are shooting for here with the role options.

So I'm hearing lots about Mechwarrior and Battletech tabletop (for obvious reasons) but I don't hear much about Mechcommander, which was actually my introduction to the Battletech universe.

Considering the format of MWO, I can easily see MC being just as great an influence on MWO as the MW games.

So, any vets of MC around here? Anyone remember Rooster from the first MC?

"This is Rooster!"

"Like hittin' tin cans on a fence!"

"My armor's meltin' off!"

**This may need to go somewhere else, so feel free to move it.

.....thank you.....this game looks amazing, just got it and will be playing in a few hours

actually it was an RPG first, I still have my Mechwarrior book, in it you made your character (Pilot) and your DM took you through your missions ;)

Played both the games way too much. Wolfmans mods and the others that were around really improved MC2.

I had fun with the first mech commander, never got to play the second though. I have always loved the personality that many of the games put into the characters like the OP mention of Rooster and many others.

Check out Mechcommander Omnitech. http://www.moddb.com...mander-omnitech It's a severely modded version of Mechcommander 2. Completely legally free. I played through it a little while back having played through the original release a couple times I can say that it is a major improvement.

Having said that, I just bought a new PC and it runs Windows 7 64 and my computer refuses to play the original MC2 or MWO. ;) Any suggestions would be nice...

Mech commander was very fun. I remember the first one replaying that first mission over and over till I captured the Madcat whole.

Took. SO. Long.
I remember one mission where a Mad Cat walks through some industrial areas where there are exploding gas tanks, I alway worked him down a bit stripped most of his armor with the explosion and tried to focus on headshots so I could salvage him  Mad Cats looked soooo cool in MC and it took so, so many tries to actually salvage it in the early game ;)
Sadly, my new comp won't let me run MC Gold :( and MC2 was trash compared to it.

MC was the first "Battletech- universe" game i ever played, and i instantly fell inlove, just the overall idea of a big machine towering over the small army trying to stop it is just flabbergasm right there, but also the allmost prefect art\gameplay of it aswell...

cant think of a better game(pc game) to start your battletech journey with.

played it all through again just last week and it has aged so well.. just a beautiful peace of art<3

and also, i am mighty impressed with the community, never seen such a constructive and in generall "grown up" community, hopefully not jinx'ing it by saying that.

first post:)

I remember been stuck at E3M1, without capturing the Mad Cat A from E1M3... god dammit... I waste like a month trying to win that level. Good old days, where there was no checkpoint behind each corner.

Right now, I'm playing MC2, Exodus campaigns... damn hard and funny!

Mechcommander was/is one of my all time favs. MC2 came in second once my machine had enough horsepower to grind out that slop code they assembled it with. If you still play MC2 Google search Wolfman's mission packs. He did a lot of work on the brain and generated some mission packs that were just plain heartbreakers and mech-wreckers.

I screwed up and upgraded to a 64 bit OS so MC Gold and MC2 won't play on my machine. I gotta find an old XP box or hope somebody had found a way to make them run on Windws 7 64.

If you like Battletech you should check it out. Yeah, purists hated a lot of it, but they all ways hate anything that clashes with their archtype of a BT game.

I found a copy of mc2 a few days ago for free. It's been fun as heck. I've got a pilot with srm and lrm specialist in the catapult. He soloed one of the missions after I failed it using two ravens. Not sure what mission it was but it has a 75ton limit.
