There is only one damage type so everything strips armor the same, the X factor is how many shots you are landing on target.
I guess high dps builds would be best just from a numbers standpoint. He walks slow and predictably so its easy to land shots and hes not firing back so facetime isn't a problem if the other team isn't shooting you.

VIP Atlas
That's the actual game file for the VIP Atlas, as you can see her legs are the weakest point for the kill, you could core it out from the back, but some 500-ish damage is going to be needed... or you could take a leg for 360-ish and then disengage and wait for the timer to run out.

Play it like skirmish.... with the addition of a useless Atlas.
What really helps if you are attacking is to pretend the VIP is Russ Bullock

if you are attacking just remember while killing the VIP is far easier when the enemy team are gone if the VIP makes it to the extraction zone the enemy win, even of all their other Mechs are dead.
The VIP atlas has several times as much armor as a stock Atlas but will not have more than the 23% rear armor of the stock atlas
The rear CT on a stock Atlas has less hitpoints (92) than a leg (124), so if both are in good condition it will be quicker to kill it by killing its rear CT than destroy a leg (after which you may still need to kill it), the Atlas is a big target so if you are not trying to fend off other Mechs you should be able to aim for the componant you want (although if you have time you will do much more damage for completely stripping the Mech than for a quick kill).

the VIP Atlas is a walking target, I have never seen it try to evade fire or fire back, literaly all it does is walk to the extraction zone, so if you need to kill it, it will take about as long as a normal Atlas with a competant pilot (unfortunately competant atlas pilots seem to be getting pretty rare), because a well piloted Atlas goes down with no armor left on the arms or torsos(out of more than 400 points), a competant Atlas pilot will usualy loose both arms and side torsos before loosing armor on the CT, unless legged to death, and the VIP is not shooting back so it is pretty easy to kill provided you are not fending off enemies at the same time

I was once in a team where someone suggested we leg it right at start and then it will move slower and allow us better to fight the enemy without the VIP charging foolishly towards the enemy as it normally does, but it didn't slow down at all when we actually did it.(a lot of people resisted the idea but several of us did it anyway heh)
So either it doesn't matter at all or it doens't count being legged by friendlies.
But this was few patches ago, when it had slighly less armor front, than back. It had like 300/320.(front/back) And I'm pretty sure it had more armor in legs than now. So that's not quaranteed to apply anymore.

I mostly agree but make sure you do not ignore it for too long, if you kill all the enemy but the Atlas makes it to the extraction zone you still loose, once/if you have a numbers advantage in the brawl it does not hurt to dispatch 1-2 people to kill the Atlas.
I have been in several games where the attackers utterly wiped out the defenders with several suvivors but did not have enough time to kill the Atlas precisely because everyone kept fighting until the last Mech was destroyed, in 3 cases if they had sent someone after the atlas 10 seconds sooner they would have had it.

it can be, but that very much depends on the team, as you probably noticed from most of the responses to this thread most people play it like skirmish except they also have to prevent/ensure the VIP Atlas extraction as well, and the VIP Atlas seems to have removed all its weapons and devoted that tonnage to extra armor, as well as fitting a (not currently, and unlikely to ever be available, experimental technoligy) mark 20 speed retention module allowing 100% speed when legged, making shooting out the CT the most effective way to kill it (less armor on the CT than both legs, and good luck getting enough headshots to kill it)

Ye but that is why you leg it
Kill 6-8 mechs and if you're running low on time just chop a leg and get back to work. Best part is the VIP doesn't shoot back... If you're in a light you can generally get near the VIP without a drama, leg it and go back to business
