I am tier 1 but hadn't played for quite a while and have talked my nephew into playing. He and I made a group for quick play and spent more than an hour trying to get a game. Are tier 1 not allowed to group game with beginners or does group game not work anymore?

It works, if it can put together a group. Either need to play during primetime or get a bigger group going.

Tiers don't really matter any more. the problem is group size.

[edit] The "don't really matter" comment is not official policy. You are only supposed to play with people within two tiers of yourselves. I'm assuming he's tier 5 and you are tier 1.

Also, grouping removes the tier limitation. If you want to play with him, you will need to start a new account and sync drop.

People were constantly punished for playing a team game with friends. They left... no surprise.

He would be tier 5. Tried joining him and tried to get him to join me and it always failed to find a game. IT was about 80 minutes of trying, if we werent allowed to play due to the tier difference you would think it would stop you trying. I've noticed other comments about group games not working since posting

I think the group games work if you have the full complement, i.e., 12 members. I've tried creating groups with 3-5 people and so far, I've played two games in a week, which is pathetic. If we can't group with the people we know and deploy into a match, then why even bother having a friend's list?

It has to be the time you're playing. I play every weekend with a group of 3 to 8. I would say we find games in about 3 minutes on average.

Saying this I am seeing more and more of the same people.Due to this groupq is started to be auto wins depending on who is on your team.

pst we play 5 to 9

I forget if it matters in groupq but make sure you have all servers selected.

Group Queue only exists from about 6pm eastern to about 1am eastern. It starts to fall off dramatically after that, with many players outside of those hours sync-dropping into solo queue instead of trying to get games in group queue.

Last night, I played a few QP matches and was looking at the possible options for my next mech in the MechLab. I got invited to a group as I had forgotten to take myself off the group queue. So, long story short, the initial number was 3 people, then 5 and then 7. Waited for several minutes and then I decided to take my leave by informing the other players.

Trouble is that when we all click "Ready", all we can do is stare at the amazing animated circle. If someone cancels, I guess everyone gets canceled and we have to ready ourselves and start all over again. I don't think the VOIP works 'cause I was talking like an eejit and nobody responded and we certainly can't type in the chat box. Is it really hard for the UI developer to realize this and spend half a day to make sure that the chat box gets overlayed on top of the loading screen? We definitely need to be able to communicate with each other during this colossal waste of time, don't you think? If I'm doing something wrong here, please feel free to ruthlessly point that out.

No, you ain't doing anything wrong. To circumvent this communication issue, you should get onto a TS or Discord server, so you could chat or talk directly.

Ok, I see this phrase "sync drop" used a lot and I can't figure it out. I feel like I'm Cpl. Upham. Please help.

Sync dropping is when you have a group of people click launch in the normal Q at the same time.

When I have done it for Marik ran events you get a mix of players on each team with about 4 players getting into the same game. Atleast during weekday peak time. Other times would be different.

Oh, so rather than going through the Group Chat game, we just click the Quick Play at the same time.

Correct, I found it fun for a few games.
Side note if you can get a larger group even 4 players you can do private matches. Some of the best games i have played were in private matches.

Word of warning for synch dropping:
The chances of landing in the same game and in the same team aren't good.
If you do go ahead with it, be prepared to spend a lot of time playing solo (didn't get matched into the same game), sometimes playing against each other (same game different team) and waiting around in menus while the other player finishes their game.

^^^ Especially if most are running the same class of mechs, ie all heavies, etc.

I wasted 90 minutes last night trying to drop solo into a Faction Play match.

I couldn't get a lobby, let alone a match. (Noone in my friends list was in a group.)

Sad Panda.

The population is really REALLY getting to be an issue.

Is it really a population issue though? The way I see, the games that I've played since the CS 1.2 and Quake 3 Arena days, we used to have something like Xfire to keep track of each other and once in the game, we'd pick the same server and then choose the same team (if we play Team DM or CTF). Either way, we'd be playing together and it was really easy to arrange.

In MWO, getting to play with friends isn't a guarantee. THAT is the issue for me. I don't care about winning. Winning isn't why I have a hobby like video games. It's for fun. Fun is there to be had but it isn't exactly the fulfilling type of fun. Heck, even PUBG does match-making perfectly and we can team up with friends in an instant.
