What are skills supposed to represent?
The pilot’s abilities?
The AI improvement?
And what role does the player take in this game – the one piloting all the Mechs, or the hangar owner employing a pilot per Mech?

There's more to the Battletech/Mechwarrior universe than just 'mechs. There is a full-fledged RPG component to it as well.

For example, how would a good pilot get it to run 'x'% faster?
So on that means ya just gotta roll with it. As for the battletech sheets, this game has distinguished itself away from this system already. It's impossible to convert a table top game into a computerised FPS, Warhammer40k has had this issue already. There will be some gives and takes.
I believe our job for the new skills tree is to break it in as many ways possible and do the games testing for them. It's coming whether ya like it or not so why not just help make it work.

This is usually the last-gasp kind of thing FTP's pull right when they have that dreaded board meeting about insolvency.
So, yeah. Until I get proof otherwise, this is nothing more than a grind reset for long time players. That's it.
*drops mic*
... *stoops, picks up mic again*
You know what, of all the silly, misguided, waste-of-time decisions I've seen thus far, I'd say this one is the absolutely most incendiary. I already did this, PGI. I already went through the dozens-of-hours grind, pounding out "efficiencies" three-for-three across several chassis. And now I essentially have to do it again? I don't care about XP. I'm already SWIMMING in XP. The C-Bill requirement to get my mechs back to where they were prior to this half-baked mess is a joke.
Oooooh, this has me seething mad.

Actually, what seems to be the majority of people, is primarily angry about the grind. Read some of the feedback threads. They are full about complains about the Cbill and XP costs of mastering mechs.

Yes, I see now that you're correct. I somehow managed to miss a lot of those complaints in the forums I read. I don't even remember the vast majority of the other complaints people were voicing other than that, so fixated I was on the most glaring issue. I was just beside myself with the absence of complaints about the grind reset.
But yes, I just happened across a few threads. I sincerely hope PGI takes this mass rejection seriously. But even then, think of how many man-hours have already been straight up wasted on such an OBVIOUSLY boneheaded, incendiary, badly-thought out decision. The mere thought boggles the mind.

Yeah, but sadly, that's something that happens to PGI quite frequently. They had to hotfix things so often, or back away from ideas they had after harsh criticism of the community.
It's hard to really understand how one could come up with some of their ideas... but on the upside, atleast they started putting things on PTS and don't just slap them in our faces. Skill tree has been delayed for a whole month after the community backlash, so there is a bit of a silver lining.

A stat sheet of bonuses seems pointless as I have already said. The second suggestion would also do away with the need of quirks.
