History

Since the introduction of the chassis, Atlas's have been nicknamed Big Ben. Who first christened their mech Big Ben has long been forgotten, but across the Inner Sphere the name rings, much like the Bell from which it comes.

This particular Big Ben was piloted by the Mercenary Benjamin Ikeda, 'cleverly' referred to as 'Little Ben.' Deployed in defense of the Draconis Combine during the Clan invasion, Big Ben was unceremoniously destroyed from range by Clan aggressors. While the chassis was salvaged from the field, it was deemed a low priority mech for repair, and so was mothballed.

Enraged by his defeat, and with no other mech to pilot, Ikeda conspired to repair the mech himself. Through barter, favor, and theft, he was able to accumulate a stockpile of parts from other Atlas's that were even less lucky then his own, and by the time Operation Bulldog had commenced in 3059, the newly named 'Bigger Ben' was operational.

The Bigger Ben was in with the re-enforcement wave sent to Port Arthur, where it immediately had it's revenge against Smoke Jaguar forces. Using terrain to screen it's advance, the modified Atlas ambushed a command star, blowing a Daishi in half with two salvos and beating two heavy mechs to death with it's dismembered limbs before forcing the rest of the star into retreating in confusion.

Bigger Ben continued to serve as mercenary support until the completion of Operation Bulldog, at which point Ikeda accepted a position in the newly formed Star League.

Weapons and Equipment

Rather than attempt to compete with Clan mechs at range, The Bigger Ben instead doubles down on close range arms. Utilizing Double Heat Sinks, the mech's only concession to modern technological advances, and stripping out the LRM20 launcher, the Bigger Ben was able to fit a second Defiance 'Mech Hunter 20 Rated Autocannon into it's left torso, while retaining it's Thunderstroke SRM6 rack. It's torso too cramped, all the Medium Lasers have been moved to the arms. Four tons of ammo feed it's autocannons, and 19 tons of armor protects it from enemy fire.

I remember in Closed Beta someone made a concept art Atlas with a ballistic in each torso. Always wanted on since. I'd also like to see them get around to adding the Atlas-II, since all the tech is already there, you're just putting a ballistic in the RA.

You know what would be even better, 2M/1B in each torso instead of what you have, just so you could do 2 AC20 and 4 SRM4 or 2 LBX10 and 4 ASRM6. Throw in 2 CT energy hardpoints and free up the hands (so it can punch AND fire all the things).

He was born with atrophied arms and instead of cursing at life, he prefers to carry much bigger hammers on his chest than his brothers'.

Uh... Not sure I like this much.

Thematically, if we were going to do a 'Smaller' Ben, it should look something like... this.

The Orion is sometimes referred to as a 'Poor Man's' Atlas, so I think it fits thematically better.

Maybe I should do one of these.

Also, weird. The SRM4 on the Orion shows up as a 6 on the hip, but a 4 in the shoulder.

While we're at this, let's ak PGI to increase isAC/20's GH to 2!

Alternatively, decreasing the current AC/20 GH multiplier by around 30% is a good first step.

Honestly when my buddy and I first saw the Boars Head released, we thought it would be like this. They look like tusks, and it was fitting. Needless to say we were dissapointed but bought it anyway

Um Mauler already has 6 energy and 2 ballistic and 2 missile hard points. Mine? 2 Ac20s and 6 medium lasers. So um an atlas that can do ... 4 medium pulses and 2 Ac20s? And more tonnage? Yes please.

You see where those ballistic hardpoints are? THAT is where the KDK-3s second set of ballistics should be, including the larger hitboxes when fitting them. They shouldnt be as high as they are... And yes, this coming from a die hard Ghost Bear loyalist who loves the kodiak...
