If 2 big groups are willing to play, field them against each other regardless of faction meaning clan vs clan, etc. Call such battles 'trial of whatever' (clan) and 'border skirmish' (IS), done.

Remember at FW roundtable 1, they talked about groups being able to flag themselves for wanting to get put ahead of other groups in order to face off against other large groups (IE manual matchmaker)?

I wonder how hard it would be to make such matches offer double progress on the tug of war bar (IE 6.6% progress per match won, rather than 3.3%).

A.) It keeps units fighting each other rather than seal clubbing. Which makes for a more balanced experience where possible for players - obviously reliant on population to sustain.
B.) The extra progress on the bar means that there's less likelihood of a pug group losing matches and costing the whole phase's work in the dying minutes of it.
C.) It makes invasion mode matches appear sooner....which for a number of the serious FW units is a reward in and of itself these days.

A good idea, makes sense and would help the folks who take FW seriously ... never going to happen.

There are many reasons FP struggles.

#1. No balance. Clan has been enjoying tech superiority without the drawback of lesser numbers.

#2. Past failures. Long Tom and long ques drove sooo many away.

#3. Group vs. Pug gap. Its a smash fest driving would be new players away.

#4. Meta Balance. Tonnage alone does not address over powered mechs, you either have one or you don't.
