I see you like clans. Not playing IS mechs you are missing out on some fun mechs. The hunchback 4G with a an ac20 is a must play. Dont belive me. Watch my video.

Yes hunchies are fun. The IIC is equally as fun.

From the clan side:

I really do believe the Huntsman has surpassed the Hunchie IIC, I never thought I'd say that. I absolutely love the Hunchies (both IS and clan).

The huntsman's profile is thinner, it's got a fantastic number of hard points available for builds. The pop tarting works perfectly.

The only issues is speed and staying power. The first, well ya just gotta ensure you stick with the herd. The latter, just dont get too close to the fight (that's hard with the SRM build).

---

If you can handle fast mechs, Viper's a fantastic choice. Only issue is again it's flimsy, and the JJets are too powerful. This engine can't seem to realise how far you are jumping in one go. I've been misplaced too many times.

Can you cram 20 DHS on super high mounts on an XL 275 with an armament of 2 PPCs and have enough JJs to poptart with a huntsman?

Fixed that for ya.

Why have one AC20 when you can have 2 LBX20?

Its great fun. I killed a quad gauss Kodiak with it up close, he came at me not expecting to get utterly decimated.

I said the same thing until I looked at the basis of comparison- Hunchie IICs are just better in every way and a lot of IS mediums have decent defensive and agility quirks.

Why would you buy 5?

to master them all.

you have to realize that im 11 mechs from mastering every mech varient in the game (excluding heroes i dont currently have and mechs that haven't come out for cbills yet). 5 of those just happen to be huntsmen. i also have an atlas, a highalnder, a gargoyle, an executioner, a kodiak and a battlemaster, and most of those are in elite tier (oddly the slow pokes are the bear and the battlemaster, meta, lol). the gargles and exe are leveling extremely fast compared to the others and they should be snuffed out in a couple days. the rest of the assaults will follow in short order. but these huntsmen, im going to have to grind hard to get em dun. must finish before patch day. i figure things will start to snowball in the last few days, as the assaults gain mastery its going to free up time to work on the others.

Why?

Also, I had trouble with the Huntsman too when I started. Absolutely hated them. You really have to get into the right mindset to enjoy them, that mindset being 'If I see an enemy mech for more than 2 consecutive seconds in a row, I've ****** up' mindset.

someone compared it to a nova, but the nova is a wonderful mech to level, levels fast. i completed the last one a few months ago. once i figured out "never put the big guns in the arms" the thing started leveling real good. i guess i haven't found the huntsmen's quality yet. set of 8 is keeping me from shuffling around omnipods for now, but i bet i can make a decent ballistics boat out of them ala bushie.

didnt your mother teach you not to argue with the insane?

i concur though. i think the best leveling one is the one with the longest range weapons, 3 uac2s. simply that i tend to avoid brawls with it is a testament the the fragility of the thing. the inexplicable thing is the second fastest leveling one has a brawly loadout with a uac20 and 4 ermls. this is likely because its the first varient i bought and have had longer to work on it than the others.

Prime with gauss + 4 medium lasers was the easiest, honestly. The 10% ballistic cooldown helps.

No, but you can cram 20 DHS, a basic targeting computer, and 2 ERPPC on cockpit level mounts, on a superior poptarting platform due to having 5 JJ to the HBK's 4. Why the hell do you need an XL275 anyways? You are supposed to be in the back, and moving 87 is plenty for that. I'd gladly trade a little speed for higher durability, personally.

I pilot crap mechs, so I've always been a fan of the trebuchet. In being a fan of that mech it has taught me some of the things to do and not to do and made all my medium piloting better.

I tend to use a Trebuchet 7M like some folks use the Griffin 3M.

I have a different build in my Griffin 3M though because I like it.

The Trebuchet, Centurion and Crab I suggest to folks wanting to master the mediums though as each one has different aspects that can be applied to all mechs. Treb you absolutely must absorb shots with the arms, it has big ones so that helps, but it's torsos are very easy to aim at. The centurion because of it's gun arm and learning how to land shots with a ballistic while still using torso weapons as well a sort of "time to turn the arm lock off kid" mech. The crab because it's unique hitboxes help you when piloting things similar like a bushwacker, stalker, raven, etc. it's a mech where if you do show your side you die faster than facing a mech.

These are just my observations, hope you enjoy whatever you end up with.

I really suggest to only choose clan mechs. Especially mediums profit a lot from C-XL, better endo + ferro, 1 ton C-ERML and 2-slot double heatsinkls.

Only really heavily quirked IS medium mech can compete.
