Doesn't matter.

It will be balanced better by the time I can buy it for C-bills.

I wouldn't count on that, judging by past mech "balancing" cycles.

It needs more quirks, it has standard engine, structure, and armor, with a similar profile and weapon positioning to the Warhawk (which at least has a bigger clan XL engine and ferro). The hover jets won't save it. DOA unless it gets something..

Its a battlemech so at least you can upgrade to an XL325 and endo if necessary, but still, it sounds mediocre as is.

Ah, well, fair enough. I'm not really that invested anyway. How many mechs do we have in this game now? 300? 5000?

My Clan mech collection is complete right now. At best, the only thing I will do is replace some of my mechs with better ones, if and when they arrive.

ummm....a huge segment of the playerbase has been clamoring for the Javelin. I'm not one of them, but it was very much in demand...and should be a damn good robot. Believe it or not, there are other players and robots beside Clam Robots and Players.... And while I like the RFL and WHM IIC, and think the WHMIIC in particular would have been a better choice than the Supernova (which is one of Paul's favorite robots, hence probably why it finally appeared once PGI ditched the Rule of 3), a barely see ANYONE beside you trumping for the RFLIIC.

SO while I agree PGI is often wearing blinders to what the community wants...you need to be careful of your own blinders.

Regardless of whatever happens I still hope we get both the Warhammer IIC and the Rifleman IIC. If you remember that CK16 thread for mech polls, the Rifleman IIC was 4th on the list of mechs that were wanted in game. Even if it would be technically the 5th 65 tonner, it has a purpose in the clans arsenal as a decent mech. There is always Tristan Winter and a majority who wanted the infamous clan samurai mech ya know. Posted Image

However, I would be severely disappointed if they cut it off at the Marauder IIC. I could really care less about the 3060+ mechs at this point in time since I feel that they need to fix what they have now before we get new tech.

I see people bitching about power creep and then at the same time complain that the next mech won't be the new hotness. The Supernova is flawed. But despite its flaws it is still a Clan BATTLEMECH which in this game, is the strongest variety of mech. So even a lower performing Clan Battlemech will still be good. The Highlander IIC and Orion IIC are still solid choices, especially after being quirked. I'm glad we are not getting yet another Clan assault that will further drive everything else in its weight class into obscurity.

If they doubled all the quirks on this mech, it would still be mediocre. In fact, it is so far from driving "everything else in its weight class into obscurity" that I'm shocked that you would think that.

wasn't viable in TT...so why in the heck should it have been viable to do here?

This is what pisses me off about this community...

They ***** about power creep and obsolessing lesser mechs but then ***** about new mechs not being "good enough".

The min/max mentality is so flipping boring.

Oh ops, whew! But yeah, with endo and xl325, still will have some of the problems that Warhawk currently has, so an equivalent level of quirks will be needed to bring it to par.

Maybe more, because for all its issues, the WHK is pretty spry for an assault. The SNV is not going to be that.

"This community" is not monolithic.

Some of us are completely fine with new mechs coming in that are powerful.

Also, the Kodiak exists. This mech even if it had a bigger engine and some non energy hardpoints wouldn't change the fact that the Kodiak is the best Assault in the game.

There is a difference between "bucking the meta" and simply having no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Depends...

There's players (I count myself in this group) who choose to take mediocre mechs and find the right nitch and play style to do well in them. Yes, it's not easy and it's surely not ideal.

Conversely there's a whole host of players who expect the mech to do all the work and ride their coat tails...

At the end of the day I and players like me find that play style boring.

Point still stands... players can't expect parity or superiority and deride power creep in the same breath.

Well, you're going to have a hell of a time finding a niche for the Supernova.

No offence and I'm not saying your wrong...

But if simply relied on the min/max intelligencia opinion of what's viable and what's not... I'd have one mech in my garage.

No... it's mediocre.

I believe a Russ Bullock used that word once upon a time.

What mech would that be?

problem is that one mech seems to change every month... which is better than the old days... when that one mech changed every 6 months to a year.... so I guess PGI really is making progress after all....

To be honest, it's more like 60 to 90 days.

I guess that's an "improvement".

well, when one compares the dominance cycles of the Cataphract 3D, to the Timberwolf to whatever it is today (still KDK3? or has the GyrPop replaced it in CompyLand?)...I'd call 60-90 days a huge improvement, though I was mostly referring to the "Meta of the Month" phrase.

Like I said, they could double these quirks and the Supernova still wouldn't be anything to write home about. Like others have said, I was hoping for 5-10% heat gen, I thought that would have been appropriate for the Supernova's "niche", but I guess not.
