I haven't followed the news during the last weeks. Were there any piece of information concerning what will happen to the existing quirks? Do they get completely purged and replaced by the skill tree or do they remain?

Thanks in advance.

Supposedly there will remain some quirks especially on mechs that aren't played much.

The announcement for the PTS testing of the New Skill Tree had an attachment with all of the Quirk changes that were being tested along with the new Skill Tree.

For the most part it nerfed any quirked mech hoping the new skills would make up the difference, while ignoring that unquirked mechs get the same skills, which would just increase the disparity between good and bad mechs.

Maybe a different amount of skill points would have been better, e.g. underperformers get some more points etc

While I like the idea, PGI's balance person has proven that keeping all the hundreds of mechs uniquely balanced just does work.

I would rather they balance the equipment directly, and use faction wide quirks for when they dont want to or are unable to balance the equipment.

ie: balance lasers 1 to 1
give IS faction wide Structure buffs of 50% to account for more fragile XL engine / bulkier XL engine / bulkier Endo / bulkier Ferro / bulkier DHS & weapons

Then maybe give very uniquely problematic mechs some buffs to help them (ie: Clan mechs like SMN & IFR with locked in lack of Endo / over large engines etc)

It's easy to say balance the equipment but mechs have widely varying degrees of effectiveness based on things like hit boxes, frame geometry, hardpoints, and hardpoint locations. Bad mechs will still need quirk help to survive. Removing all quirks makes unleveled, lower tier mechs SO much worse than top tier mechs than the already are.

Sorry to ressurrect this thread but I'm unable to find some info I *think* I read, but I'm not sure anymore.

Regarding the existing STRUCTURE quirks (ie, BLR 2C), will they remain or be gone with the new skill tree? I like the 6 high energy mounts of the 1G or 3M, but I like the structure quirks of the 2C more. Will they remain or be gone? That will make me purchase one or another now that they're on sale.

And what about MOBILITY? The HMN-A has a yummy +40 Torso Turn Angle that would be the tipping point on my purchase decision.

You can say it... CHEAPSKATE!

Just found this thread looking for the same thing myself, so thought I'd answer. Just in case.
