I love the idea of campaign ribbons. One issue I can see though, is how to represent Light 'Mechs that are better-geared toward recon (like the Raven) - Recon 'Mechs don't usually carry enough firepower to bring down another 'Mech by itself. I'm hesitant to make any suggestions until we know more about Information Warfare. One suggestion I'd like to make is to add a ribbon for action against Periphery forces. Maybe a skull speared on a knife. Another suggestion is to keep the background the same for all commendations, but add bars or some identifier showing grades of achievement - a bronze star added for 10 'Mechs, a silver star added for 20, a gold star added for 30, and diamond star added for all kills above 40.

All that makes sense. I will be happy to come up with some kind of recon award when we figure out how that will be implemented.

That's really the rub at this point, with have no idea what sort of stat tracking will be built in for us to use. :)

Gives us some good Q&A questions for next month though!

Edit: Oh, Skwi and I will be playing MW:LL tonight around 9-10 Eastern, if anyone wants to join us.

Don't forget to fill out the application form. :)

Makes it look better to other potential recruits (and makes sure I give the right screen name the right permissions.. but yeah... no, that's totally not the main reason at all... honest.).

As a loyal Warrior of the Varldherre i could´nt accept mercs on Rasalhague territory, but i realy like the shield of the 2nd Skjaldborg :) DRACHENGRILLEN!!!

I dunno, if the mercs are men of Rasalhague do we still hate them? I mean it was outsiders who screwed us during the Ronin Wars so seeing merc units with men we can trust in them sounds like a vast improvement to me.

Something around 8 1/2 / 10 merc units hired during the Ronin wars followed their contracts to the letter and left the FRR military exposed and fighting far more desperatly then would have been neccisary otherwise. However the remaining 1 1/2 / 10 followed not just the letters on the paper and excuted missions not covered under contract, likely for large bonuses promissed but they do work for the C-Bills after all.

And Post Ronin wars Merc's undertook many periphery/bandit missions on behalf of the FRR to allow them to recoup and rearm while keeping the boarder safe, so not all Mercs are on auto shun, but there are likely to be many blacklisted units out there and the perception fed to the Civ's is that all Merc's are bad by politicians manouvering for more funds for their planet/sector/district's military forces rather then spending it on temp solutions.

For all that said, the FRR screwed it's self during those contract negotiations by failing to make them flexible enough to encourage Merc initiative in the face of things not covered, likely using the incentives and salvage rights as most of the Larger houses do. Yet that is ancient history now, we have abominations to kill, load em up boys n girls . We got some pups to skin. :)

I chalk it up to the hazards of new statehood. And hey, we're one of the good guys, at least according to the fiction we made up. :)

From what I can see you guys have sort of already picked a look for the Drakjägarna's company icon. But I had an idea today of what it could be, so I felt it would not do any harm if I voiced it to you guys about it.

My idea revolves around that both FRR and the Draconis do use a Dragon as part of their faction icon. From the start I saw this double meaning linger in the name Drakjägarna (and the original name of Drakdräparna as well). So my idea of this double meaning, connected to the Drakjägarna, would basicly be "Dragons Hunting", "Hunting Dragons", and combined "Dragons Hunting/Killing Dragons".

I then looked at what could be done with this concept for an icon, how do represent this. First thing I did was to look at the current faction icons to see if I could get inspiration from that... and pretty quickly an idea and image of an potential icon formed.

The result of that can be viewed in the very rough (and quickly thrown together) concept "art" below.

Press the "Show" icon below to see... did not want to "ruin the surprice" by having the image shown from the start.

Spoiler

And yes, I deliberately made the Draconis dragons slightly smaller then the FRR Dragon.

I really like that insignia, with some work it could become great: imagine the two twirling around each other like they would in a runestone set on a roundshield...

Okay, that is pretty cool. We'll look in to it, it's never too late to change things up (especially this long until launch)! It's also never too late to apply! ^_^

Heh, yeah, I know. It will happend, eventually, I just don't know when. ^_^

I tend to be a bit random with... well pretty much everything. I get very focused on stuff that I do. So focused in fact that pretty much everything else around me sort of... disapears... until I lose focus on it and my focus turns to something else which I focus very hard on for X amount of time... and repeat.

So when you see me dissapear from this site for various amounts of times, it's because I am focusing on something else... like playing games, watching tv-series, movies, anime, reading books, etc. The amount of time varies as well, anythign from a few hours, to as much as several months. You could almost call it a sort of tunnel vision... or pinpoint focus might be better. Once my focus moves elsewhere, I basicly "forget" about other things, until my gaze turns towards the "forgotten" thing again. I tend to enjoy what I am doing the most when I am that focused.

To some extent I do foresee that I might play MWO for maybe a week or two, and then just disapear for an extended period of time. And there could be any numbers of reasons for it. The game it's self, other games (new or old) catching my attention (again), or I might get cought up with watching tv-series/anime, or the few times that me and 2 of my friends actually still gather to play RPG's, etc.

So due to that, I have always been hesitant to join groups/guilds/simmilar in all new "mmo's" I play... until I have a feeling I might play it for a bit longer then usual. Most games (no matter which genre/type) tend to get anything from a few hours, to a month or two at the most, befor I stop playing them... even my "favorit games" don't tend to get more then a few weeks to 3 months. Unfortunatly for mmo's/online types of games, it is unusual for them to go past a week or two.

There are only 3 (technically 4) mmo/online games that has gone past 2-3 months.

Final Fantasy XI - 4 months.

Guild Wars (my "technically 4") - ~24+ months (I would have stopped playing it compleatly after 2 months, due to having reached max level after only 2-3 weeks, and after that feeling to stagnant, and because I found CoH... but I continued to play a little bit every now and then due to my best online friend played it, and wanted me to play it as well).

City of Heroes - 33 months over a 40 month period. This was THE mmo for me... and the game that I have probably played the most since I first started playing video games in 1990. I doubt I will ever find another MMO that pulls me in like this one did. This game is the reason I stopped playing FFXI (otherwise I would have played it for longer), and is also the game that compleatly stole me away from the majority of my Guild Wars gaming as well (I started playing GW about a month befor I found CoH).

Cultures Online - the most resent online game I have played for a prolonged period of time. I started in late January 2011, and I still play... oh hell... I just realized... the last time I was in the game was late October. O_o I have compleatly forgoten to even just check in daily. Actually, around the last time I logged in there was when MWO was officialy announced, at which point my focus compleatly changed from playing it combined with watching tv-series (the type of game Cultures Online is, is the only type of game I am able to play and do other things at the same time... pretty much most other types of games are almost impossible for me to devide my focus with somehting else, like watch tv, or chat with people, or go to forums, etc, at the same time)... to being here on this forum reading and writing. Then Skyrim came out, and I focused on that, and then my focused went back here, and then moved on to a few other games, back here again, etc. Actually, I think part of the reason I have forgoten to check back into the game is due to that I have just not been watching many tv-series/animes since late October either... because if I had still been on that "tv'series wave" (I tend to refer to each period of time where I focus on one particular thing as a "wave"), I would probably also have been playing Cultures.

Damn this is really bad... because I am (or I guess "was" by now) one of my guilds "officers" (the step below the leader). This really shows just how big of an effect my "focus" on something can have on other things. *is rubbing his forhead with an almost painful look on his face* I am not surpriced though, simmilar things have happened befor, both in some online games, and with stuff like forums and chatting in messengers etc. :(

So yeah... I am always hesitant to join groups... because I don't really know what I will do from one day to the next. If I do join a guild, I will at the most consider my self to be a "casual member". Even though I might not really seem like the "casual" type of gamer. And really I am not, I tend to be pretty hardcore (in the sence of how much time I tend to put in that is, and partly also how meticulous I tend to be)... I guess there are some several other things that you guys might notice about me that would point towards me being more of a hardcore type then anything else... But anything that has other people connected to it, like in a guild for example, I delibratly try and stay on the "casual" end of things. Like I never signed up for "guild activities" of any kind in neither GW or CoH... just because I was afraid of "what if I sign up, and on that day I suddenly don't show because I am doing something else!", I never really trusted my self enough for that. I rather then just be available for them if I was online that day, and if someone did not show up or cancelled I would be there to step in if needed.

Oh well... once again I have smacked you guys in the face with a massive wall of text... so yeah... I am done for today... already 2am here... bedtime... I am going to "sussinana"... ... don't bother trying to google translate that or something... it's a Swedish childish slang for going to bed to sleep, that grown ups sometimes say to small children. :( :(

Heh. I actually don't know many Swedes online (that I know of). Don't have any Swedish online friends. The majority of my online friends are from English speaking countries (and women to for that matter... compensating for the fact that I could count the numbers of female friends I have had offline on less then one hand... B)).

All I can say... *chuckles* that's rich... "all I can say"... -_- Anyway, I will eventually apply, it will probably happend as I am riding the right "wave". No telling when that wave arrives though.

Heh, yeah, I do encounter some here and there every now and then. :P

Anyway... I found a word ("Holmgång"), and even wrote + copyed it down, to post the next day... that was something like 3-5 weeks ago... I forgot about it. ;) Until today when I checked through my collection of "to remember" notepad files that I tend to save numerous of on my desktop.

- - - - - - - - - -
Holmgang/Hólmganga/Holmgång: (first is I guess the Anglicisation version, second is old norse, and 3rd is Swedish) This was a duel practiced by medieval Scandinavians, and was a recognized way to settle disputes. In theory, anyone offended could challenge the other party to holmgang regardless of their differences in social status. This could be a matter of honor, ownership or property, demand of restitution or debt, legal disagreement or intention to help a wife or relative or avenge a friend. Holmgangs were fought 3–7 days after the challenge. Refusing the challenge would have meant that one was nidingr (a nid is a term for a social stigma implying the loss of honour and gained the status of a villain. so nidingr is what the person is then) and could have been sentenced to outlawry. In effect, if the other party was not willing or able to defend their claim, they had no honor. Sometimes a capable warrior could volunteer to fight in the place of a clearly outclassed friend. Holmgang can be translated as 'to go to (or walk on) a small island' or simply 'island walk', perhaps a reference to the duels taking place upon a small piece of hide or cloak placed on the ground. The name may also derive from the combatants dueling on a small island or islet.

Also, in Swedish atleast, I have at times heard/seen the word "Holmgång" having been used when a person, or a group of people, go out to fight (for what ever reason, even compleatly unprovoced), and in general try and cause mayhem, destruction, vandalism, or what ever. But I don't know how accurate that might be, or if I am actually thinking of another word, I might remember it incorrectly. But to my ears, it does sound like a word that could mean just that. Anyway... a good example of this type of "Holmgång" (that I think I have heard it being connected to) would be for examples "Football Hooligans" (The real "football" that is, not the fake one where only one person (or two or what ever if he has a replacement) in the entire team actually uses his foot on the ball...).
