"You arrogant ****ard! What makes your Jump Jet thread better than others?"
Because I have video of how I tested them and data results of those tests showing what is happening in game?

An idea I wanted to do since November when I became able to record video. I did the tests in December but it took until now to get it all together for presentation due to holidays and real life. This will also be posted to Reddit, Steam, the MWO Facebook page and sent to some YouTubers who do MWO commentary if they wish to provide their own views and through their subscribers get more players in the community aware of this.

Sorry if the audio is off.

Video showing:
1 - How I figured out the testing method.
2 - Results of said tests with strange issues pointed out.
3 - Mentions of the Jump Jet Skill Tree from the PTS and guesses how it may affect

https://youtu.be/knB2-GyUpTc (did they disable the forum feature that shows videos in posts as videos?)

Google Spreadsheet of Jump Jet Test Results.

Summary:
1 - Horizontal (forward) jumping will change if you change engine rating. I do not have the CBills or time to test every engine on every Jumping Mech for accuracy so I stopped collecting Horizontal Jump data.
2 - Horizontal (forward) jumping will increase if MASC is used before jumping.
3 - Vertical height and Lift Speed are NOT affected by changing engine rating or MASC.
4 - Assaults jump differently than the other 3 weight classes.
5 - Lights get outjumped by Mediums, another knock on Lights.
6 - Some weirdness between 55 and 60 ton jumping Mechs about which jumps higher based on number of jets.
7 - This data and testing method can be used to tell if the Jump Jet skills on the new Skill Trees modify anything.
8 - I do not have the ability to tell if and how much Gravity affects Jumping. This requires the same mearsuring stick on 5 different maps, that is not available.

I expect some Physics fans and students will burn their books in effigy after seeing this.

Let the discussion, debate and rage begin! Posted Image

Gravity is not dynamic in MWO
It's a static ~4G

This one is actually pretty easy.

"Which" jumpjet changes at that range.
You will notice there are 5 types of jumpjets, each is available to a specific range of weights.
The lowest end of each range will have the highest jump capability for that type of jumpjet. The highest will in theory have the lowest range.

The jumpjet level for mediums has the highest power output to typical tonnage ratio.

JJ height is also on a linear scale, where the first HoverJet™ adds the most height (x) and each subsequent adds an equal amount.

x + nY sort of thing

Linear makes it have diminishing returns.
It shouldn't be linear, but instead have the first give the lowest returns

There are lots of things that could or should be done with jumpjets (and environments) particularly when you consider how verticality can add to the dynamics of a game.

If jumpjets cost c-bills or MC to use we'd have a dozen different features for them.

edit: ok... not a dozen. The only way Russ will even consider changes or additions is if they put money directly in his pocket.

Haven't looked at the numbers yet, but it's good to see more people talking about this. Also, it's always better to provide some real numbers rather than purely personal observations and anecdotal evidence, so kudos for taking the time to do this. Let's hope your work holds water.
