Mauler Ideas

I'm a long time tabletop player and a casual MWO player, played about a month online. I have always played DCMS in both versions.
I'm on a family holiday, so away from the game for a few days. I just had some time and theory crafted these mauler designs. Using the RACs and Lbx weapons. I am loving the new ac's that the IS have.
The first using 6x RAC 2's
[smurfy]http://mwo.smurfy-ne...86d23fd1fb99ca0[/smurfy]
The second using 4x RAC 5's
[smurfy]http://mwo.smurfy-ne...10a7fe956251716[/.
And finally the shotgun
[smurfy]http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9f6ca4bca140030[/smurfy]
So my question is are these builds any good? As I can't test them at the moment I would Like some insight, what's good and what's bad?
Thanks all.

I bought a couple Maulers too and would be intrigued by anybody's ideas on Mauler builds.
Baradul recently did a quad LB5X build on a Sleipnir
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...880d0f7a64750b5
So in theory it is workable, similar to your LB5X shotgun build. I'd stay away from light PPC's in the arms though.
Builds I was looking at are 6xAC2:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8590d86a08ac644
And using the 20% Jam chance quirk and nice laser heat quirk on the 2P I was looking at a couple UAC/laser builds:
MAL-2P 2xUAC20, 4xML
MAL-2P 2xUAC10, 4xML, STD engine
MAL-2P 2xUAC5, 6xML, STD engine
Edit - and I will second Evilwallofdeath, more than 2 RAC's don't seem to work very well in-game.

MAL-2P LT325, 1xUAC20, 1xUAC10, 3xERML, TC1
Fire group one: UAC10. Fire group two: UAC10 AND UAC20. Fire group three: medium lasers.
Heat management is okay. For even better you could swap out regular ML's for the ERML's, I'm not sure what I'm sold on yet. Regular lasers will give you even better heat management and DPS. ERML's give you a slightly more robust mid range. I think I might change them to regular ML's. But anyways, I like it. The high burst of the UAC's means you can fire and twist quickly, spreading damage. As opposed to the RAC's which need you to stay glued.
Potential skill tree for the build:
Go heavy on agility and survivability.
edit-
And here is your quad shotgun build re-worked a little bit. 1P I think is the best variant for it:

After playing it for a bit I am not sure anymore that it is any good. The UAC's still jam quite a bit, and the chest mounted hardpoints really aren't that great. Landing UAC double taps is quite difficult. The arm energy hardpoints are pretty low and not good for peaking. You're a slow moving target without much torso range of motion. I had a couple good games but for the most part it is hard to get anything done.
The thing on the Mauler I've been neglecting are the high missile hardpoints. Anybody tried using MRM's on this thing for hill peaking? They would seem to give you a much more fearsome alpha strike, but I am not sure if they are any good.
Some possibilities:

2x ac20 with some lazers maybe
6xac2 good
2x hgauss can do well till you blow up
2x gauss + 6x mpl see above
6x hmg + 2x streak srm 6 + 2x lpl or hl for facehugging
1x uac20 + 1xmrm20 + 2x erml asymmetric freakmech

The 6 RAC/2s...
Fire in groups of 3.. Once one set jams, begin firing the other set. Alternate as necessary.
4 RAC/5s.
Fire in groups of 2. Once one set jams, fire the other set.
The shotgun...
Fire as you please.
As an alternative, combine 2 RAC/5s with 2 UAC/5s or 4 UAC/2s if possible.

That is not using them right. They have a heat build up a like a flamer, one reaches it and you switch to the next one.
No longer needing three Mechs has me thinking of a couple of buys also with this Mauler being one of them.
As far as UACs, even in the Clan, I do not use them. I do not use a weapon that jams. (yes, the rot-5 can..)

First one is outright suicide, since more than 2RACs at any time produce massive ghostheat.
What seemed feasible is mounting 4 at once firing 2 after 2 when the first 2 jammed you start the other 2.
I tryed 5LB5X on my Annihilator and found it barely ok since you will distribute a significant ammount of dmg at more than 300m when it comes to smaler heavys and better armored meds.
Lights on the one hand are successfully detered by the high projectile speed and still good dps.
Assault enemys on the other hand have hitboxes so large that your spread doesn't realy matter.
The next thing you will miss is the shake, burst and stopingpower of ultras.

This was the "least worse" I could come up with for the 2P (which I currently own). I know it's hot....

Lets do a reality check shall we ?
-- left over half ton
-- XL Reactor on a Mauler
-- firepower that fits on a Jagermech fitted on one of the squishier, slower IS Assaults
-- long face time due to RACs dps principle and one of the flattest and widest silhuettes of all mechs
That even gets worse due to installing MRMs on it. (larger side torso hitboxes with missiles)
-- XL Reactor ON A FRIGGIN MAULER that needs long facetimes for its dot weapons.
-- combination of more frontloaded and dot weapons
Ok you where trolling right ?
Edit: MAL-2P
MAL-1P
MAL-MX90

Mauler 1R: 2 Lbx10's, 4 srm6's, 2 erml, LFE 310 Splat MONSTER
Mauler MX90: 4 UAC5's, 2 erml, LFE 310 Not as powerful as it was before it was nerfed, but still powerful.

As for builds, the new favorite of 6 UAC2's is fun, though hotter than you might think. A pair of RAC5's with some backup guns is good. Dual Gauss or Dual Heavy Gauss is solid. I'm not sold on dual AC20 or LBX20. The range is short, and the Mauler's poor torso twist range can leave you open to flankers. Sleipner, while basically being a Mauler in Cyclops clothing, handles this better since it has higher torso twist range and it can twist faster. It does, however, have somewhat lower hardpoints.
