I respect the skill it takes to pilot one of those twitchy little guys. The variant(s) that packs 6spls is a little beast. Go for those.

Indeed - 3M also a good option. But the efficiency of builds is less important to me, i value fun and challenging gameplay way more and the reason to suggest exactly these (the PB because he already has one).

Ps. Never waste tonnage on AMS on a locust
Clearly you don't enjoy enough of a challenge.
AMS locust is most challenging locust of all
(but seriously main reason I bought the 3M was to run a poor-man's Kitfox)
(which doesn't make it a good idea...just a fun idea)

Im sorry i dont think i understand or get your point or the humor in it lol
But an AMS locust? You go out there to take out missiles instead of mechs? Lrms or ssrms are such a low threat that mostly can be avoided with clever movement and positioning that it would a true waste of tonnage to gear up specifically for just that... the extra speed / mobility that could otherwise be gained is at your service and useable at all times.
Anyway, a locust has a combination of two characteristics that no other mech has: size and mobility. Pilot the locust for these characteristics, use that to your advantage and exploit the enemies weakspots and errors. Some pick the locust for its tonnage, to squeeze a heavier mech into a dropdeck - but they are no true locust pilots

What you're saying is what makes it a challenge for him. By wasting 2 of your very few tons you are REALLY challenging yourself because you've given up weapons or armor, or engine.

Ah i see, the challenge is piloting a "slow" locust. Tnx for clearing that up.
Alright, thats a way to challenge your piloting skills but to me its not in the spirit of a locust.. (imo) a locust should be speedy and mobile first, thats a major characteristic. Another way to challenge yourself is to be even more offensive, extending more - operating further away from your team and closer or sometimes in between the enemy team or by dropping armor to fit an extra heatsink (or erppc on the PB ).
Anyway, to me a slow locust is "just" a small jenner or raven - not a true locust
