MW4 also had uber god LBX for brawlers...

I don't remember shooting through terrain.

I don't think it's fair to say that the entire game as a whole was bad just because of a bug and some multiplayer cheesing (which was mostly in no heat unlimited ammo 3PV servers).

Meh, I quit playing it after maybe a year or a year and a half after it came out. It was too easy to win--just take 5 ER Larges, or 3 light gauss and 2 PPCs (I loved the Sunder), amble to the razor's edge of a slope just so your crosshairs passed, engage reverse, wait for the red reticle, fire, and watch as most of your shots flew through the hill, doing full damage to the enemy while your own robit was shielded from most damage.

The brawling was fine, I loved running an Argus with AC/20 + 2 llas, or a Hellbringer with LBX 10s, but getting in close was hellishly hard due to how ridiculous the sniper builds and terrain abuse was.

I was great at the game--it just bored me to tears, what, with all the different things you could exploit to cheese it up.

Aye, the hitboxes overlap--they're bounding spheres, well, ovals, mostly.

You, do realise that's basically what Mechwarrior 5 is going to be right? It's another Mechwarrior Mercs game, where salvage, and chassis differences will matter, if PGI stick to what they had said, the mechlab will be a bit more locked down, keeping in universe flavor with the IS tech of the time 3025 era [extending up to 3049/50]. But you'll be taking contracts, and fighting it out in a much more fleshed out setting.

At least that's the hope, what little I saw of their tech demo, gives me hope.

There was more to MW4 than the things you mentioned. The game had a very arcade playstyle that alot of people enjoyed. Gameplay wise, MW4 was the best in the series.

You can just mod mwo on steam and make it yourself with the workshop. Mwo is on steam or so they said.

Do you even know what you are talking about?

no, I'd say that honor goes to Mechwarrior 3.

If we could get Mech3's gameplay [without instant legging], Mech 4's customization... and Mech 2's mission variety, we'd be golden for a Mechwarrior game.

Most the time. Regarding the lack of mwo moding on steam is pet peeve of mine in that we can do no modding what so ever using steam. I get that pgi wants total control over mwo for max profit and preventing people from really trolling and cheating adjusting armor and weapon values but I sure wish they'd let me do simple "mods" that would have no real game breaking or hack like effect such as changing hud color, font size, font text, sound adjustment of sound fx I find loud while others i can hardly hear, or just improve the chat window by moving its placement within the ui instead of that flashing blue square.

Even the lack of simple option(s) of mini map details and closed beta vs improved mini map. I'd love a "mod" for getting the closed beta mini map back. Many people have posted in other threads they would gladly pay pgi for mc for sound pack options for different bit ch eng bettys from past mw titles. I haven't looked recently in the tos or cod if pgi counts that as "hacking/cheating" still and enforces bans for it.

Do I want a story-based campaign to play alongside the PVP of MWO? Yes please.

Do I want MW4 with modern graphics? God no.

I replayed the MW4 games recently after watching a few episodes of Kanajashi's playthrough. Having a plot, a purpose, and something to do other than "kill 12 enemy mechs" is awesome. Most of the rest of it, notsomuch.

It sure was. I played it a long time. I recall Coolant being a great teammate and map maker. NHUA was my server of choice. Love the big alphas.

First how in the blazes did the one poster get mw4 to work on windows 10? Now sniper god mode bad? Like LRM Boating and boating in this game is not just as bad. At least in MW4 the IS tech had the advantage of low heat, which met more tons for weapons, as you did not need all those heat sinks. Up top of that super fast firing of missiles. While clan tech had the advantage of longer range laser, but way way more heat. You could truly customize your mech in that game. Take or add jump jets to those variants. Change the hull of your mech, or change the amor of your mech. You could even customize the speed of your mech. This game may have a skill tree but it has far less customization for the mechs.

The heat advantage of most IS energy weapons was legit, but for ballistics and missiles the Clammers were blatantly superior. The cycle time advantage of the IS versions just wasn't enough to compare to the massive weight savings of the Clan versions.

I don't have to do anything special to get MW4 working other than compatibility mode.

I find it strange people recall loving MW4 for it's arcade style, but if you bring up respawns for MWO - all **** hits the fan of making the game too arcadey. Really?

And all of that extra content was brought to you for free by MekTek. Makes you wonder how they kept the servers going? ;)

If i understand correctly, the Servers were all hosted by various players who would have a dedicated PC that ran the server and then played on another PC..... Dogg hosted our unit server....

Coolent was always fun to play against, and had a bushwacker build, that if he ever got close to you, could out dps ya so fast it would make your head spin........

Gotta agree with this, and I replayed the campaign in December. MW4 had a good campaign with decent nonlinearity, and the mechlab is always fun to play around with, but the core game mechanics have not aged well. MWO does real time combat far better, but it suffers from the need to be a PvP arena shooter and all the baggage that entails as well as generally being a minimum viable product to get the series going again.

Hopefully MW5 isn't DRM'ed to the hilt; a GOG release would be ideal. I've mostly lost interest in Steam/Steamworks and the more draconian Internet-connected stuff is just a non starter (lookin' at you, Ubisoft).

They are reaching saturation on mech packs. The new skill tree doesn't help. Might be time to release PvE content each month instead of mechs.
