shadow cat ???: more like old faithful and my original mech to start with.
warhammer widowmaker: because 4 ac5s is a thing.
kodiac SB: because the things it can do and not just be a brawler.

Medium- Hunchback ppc, yea that a-hole. Though I hardly ever run them
Heavy- Hellbringer- 2lpl 3ml ez damage all day. Doing the math on my stats overall playtime (249 matches played, 146,156 damage overall) for damage per game= 980~ per match in it. I like ecm and high mounts

Assault- 6 ac2 Macro King Crab- shoot them in the face repeatedly and they will not be able to see you. Also its just a damn fun mech to play with a load of ac2's. Close range maps it's a challenge to play and you really gotta play it safe with the team because you're a face time mech. But across grim plexus or a big map you can rattle of 1200 ac2 rounds at the enemy while they can barely return fire, I love it so much

L: Locust 1E (1.23 kills per game / 153 kills in 124 games)
M: not applicable

Medium: PHX-2: The combination of speed, jump jets, ECM, and 6 medium pulse is absolute magic! Even when they first came out I was easily racking up around 800 damage and 7 kills per match, never broke 900 damage or 8 kills however, I just couldn't manage to pull it off.
Heavy: Marauder/Night Gyr: The flexibility of loadouts and weapon placement is just too good, and I find both mechs an absolute pleasure to drive!
Assault: Highlander IIC-C/Stalker 3FB: Gotta play these guys carefully but once the ball is rolling you can do some pretty disgusting things in these mechs.

Currently my go-to Mech's are a rifleman 3n. Warhammer 6d. Grashopper 5n and 5h. More recently I've really taken to the Phoenix hawk 1b. I don't really have a reliable light or assault anymore. If I go light I'll usually just bring a pirates bane. When I go assault I go battlemaster or mauler. Maybe atlas if 100 tonners are specifically called for.

I have 149 mechs and I play them all. I am not a good player so I don't typically get kills and rarely more than 1-2.
Looking at "most kills" my top mechs were not a shock: Mauler 1R, Quickdraws, Griffin 2N, Huggin. These are mechs I play fairly often so expected. What was odd (at least to me) though were the second place mechs: Pretty Baby (so much for the old LRMs are not useful), Illya (I run LBX), BJ-1 (2 AC-2 4ML), and the Oxide. These are odd to me as I don't play them often (in the case of the oxide not since early 2016) or they have relatively weak load outs, and I just never recall many games where I felt like I was doing really well in them. Huh.
What is really odd is when I look at KDR. Top performers are: Atlas-RS, Grasshopper-5J, Enforcer-5D, Panther-8Z. These are mechs I rarely play, have a fairly strong feeling of general dislike, but apparently have had some good though not particularly memorable matches in. Again...huh.
God forbid this gives me a little sympathy for PGI and their attempts at understanding the data of this game.

Most kills;
Light - Kit Fox Purifier
Medium - Nova Breaker
Heavy - Rifleman RFL-3N
Assault - King Crab KGC-000
Best KDR;
Light - Locust LCT-1V (10.00)
Medium - Cicada CDA-2B (7.00)
Heavy - Linebacker LBK-Prime (3.00)
Assault - Executioner EXE-D (3.75)
(To be clear, I have very few matches in most of my 'mechs and the majority of my stats are pretty lackluster)

Though:
Light: Addar Prime (Super Stock)
Medium: Yen Lo Wang CN9-YLW
Heavy: Mad Dog Prime
Assault: Warhawk Prime
Actual:
Light: Adder Prime (Super Stock)
Medium: CN9-A (Super Stock)
Heavy: Warhammer 6R (Super Stock)
Assault: Warhawk Prime (Super Stock)
Honestly it was the CN9-A that surprised me, having a higher kills per drop average than my Yen Lo Wang...

So I went back and looked at my actual stats to try and give a legit answer to this. Odd stuff in they're accurate.

I find it odd that the Rifleman and King Crab top my kill totals. I haven't dropped in a Rifleman since Archers were released and the King Crab hasn't seen action since... well, since either Clan Wave II or Resistance I were released, I forget which.

I got three of them and main PRIME is setup with 2 AC/10's, two ER Large beamers and two ER Medium Beamers. My other DW-B is setup for 4 AC/5's and 4 ER Medium Beamers. Runs little bit hot, but managed carefully, it's fun

Medium: 4x CMG/6x CSMPL Viper. Special mention to my AC10/2x ERLL Shadowhawk 5M for how much I played it.
Heavy: Probably my 3x LPL/2x ML Jester
Assault: UAC5/AC5/3ML/LL Zeus, although its teeth were cut with the UAC jam nerf
