so finally got the chance to spend some time on the PTS. overall feel with it is not very good. Mechs in general feel slower. over the last year+ of playing i have become accustomed to mechs moving more fluidly. It feels worse in city environment where i seem to be bumping into buildings more and having to start and stop movements sooner.
On to the skill tree it self. This feels like a step backwards. its more confusing to use than PTS 1.0 and way more confusing than live. I really dislike the way skill nodes adjacent to a node u selected becomes highlighted. This issue is exaggerated in the now Massive Fire power tree. it gets confusing real quick as to what u have unlocked and what is not unlocked but now shows a color. I really dislike the amount of filler skills used. The mobility tree for example grants very little enhanced mobility. just a couple of KPH to your acceleration, deceleration and turn rate. the % might seems large but they just don't seem to pay out. Unfortunately what does pay out in this tree is Speed tweak and i am forced to fill around 30 points to unlock it. The tabs on top listing the skill trees are also a little misleading . The last tab is Miscellaneous but the list on the top shows Auxiliary and a second line with Miscellaneous . so what is the correct name of the tree?
Finally after spending around 30 min to get my 91 points in i go and look at the Quirk area on the mech select screen. This still needs a ton of work. Good example is any mech that has the Ammo skill. you get 8 lines of quirks listed. so if you have just 1 ac5 you still get listed all of the possible ammo bonuses. now it only lists the per ton ammo bonus not the total the mech will drop with. This is also confusing. The idea of making one Firepower tree to solve or help with boating weapons on a mech does not solve the issue. I feel it with 73 nodes it penalizes anyone who does run multiple weapons systems. A laser boat will have a skill point advantage over a laser /missile load out etc. Being able to max most of his/her laser range cool-down etc while the multiple weapon system mech will have to spend a lot more points to grab both or all three bonuses leaving them with a deficit in other skill trees.
Over all the Skill tree feels to be extremely rushed, its not polished and its confusing . My original excitement for a new skill tree has been firmly replaced with frustration and disgust. Skill tree 1.0 was bad 2.0 is overall worse. On a side note there are still several mechs with Errors to their movement speeds etc .Grasshopper GHR-5h(c) for example still shows .23 kph for acceleration and .32 for decceleration same goes for the Timber TBR-C(s) and the list goes on.
