my prefered playstyle is close up and agressive, and I just have not found RD to be very useful 19 games out of 20, so I would rather use something which is useful in those other 19 games.


So basically you don't trade, which is why you don't use it much.

Playing lights can be a mixed bag. I have had great rounds with them and horrible rounds with them. Sometimes many in a row each direction. What usually yields success for me is to stick with a chassis for at least a dozen rounds regardless of play frequency. Bouncing around between mechs is a detriment to mastery, both literally and in skill points. The faster the light mech you are in is, the less you should be standing still. Always be moving. Spotting, distracting and capping. As others have accurately stated, there is no substitute for practice.
