I'm not into a mood to do maths but I know some of you really are!

Maybe there are a few things we would benefit doing now before patch lands.

Is it better to unlock all possible modules now for a greater return after patch or it's better to not touch anything until patch? Or maybe it really makes no difference?

Is moving XP to GXP better now or wait? Not that I plan to spend money doing this, just asking for others.

Sell inventory overstock now or wait or it will be the same so it does not matter?

Anything else?

You get full refunds on everything that you have in your inventory or on a mech, so basically just don't sell any modules, buying more won't lose you anything.

Yeah, as Dakota said, don't sell anything(you'll be refunded for what you have, if you sell modules now you'll only get 50% value for them). Otherwise, it doesn't matter.

I wouldn't convert XP, though it wouldn't hurt, because you may end up wanting that XP on the mech you converted it off of.

One thing I honestly recommend: don't blow a fortune respecing your mechs after the patch.

Given PGI's track record, one can safely say there will be at least one "rebalance" of the skill tree, which could force you to respec your mechs AGAIN after the first grind through them all.

Additionally, with New Tech coming, that will probably trigger yet ANOTHER "rebalance" of the skill tree. If you want to wait that long to spend skill points, it's up to you, but don't be surprised if PGI shuffles things around yet again after new tech comes out.

As for what to do between now and the patch, don't sell anything and you're probably better off not buying any mechs since you don't know what shambling wrecks they'll morph into post skill maze deployment.

It's kinda natural. I too lost most interest in playing now right before so many things will get changed, but I will surely be playing when the patch hits. Very curious how will that work out (although worried too as well).

yup.

I have a few mechs within 2000xp or so of unlocking the master slot on, so I will probably play those just to get it "done"... but not because it will change anything really "crossing over". (and mostly just because when I was doing the maths, I noticed a few that I just forgot to finish when something else came along)

Have they said anything about mechs that you've sold? All I kept thinking in that stupid protest video, is that guy just hosed himself without waiting and seeing.

What troubles me is that most of mechs are IS and most of them are not top-tier meta. There is no doubt, then, that the vast majority of my collection will be rendered utterly worthless patch day. Aside from a smattering of mechs: a Night Gyr, Stormcrows, Timberwolves, and I guess Jagers, Maulers, and Cyclops, the rest of it is weak already and will be utter trash post patch based upon what we've seen on the PTS.

I suppose I could just strip or sell all that crap, invest in meta-mechs and be done with it, and I may just do that, but it means I'll have so much new grinding to do I'll have no reason to buy anything again, ever. Heck, I won't even need mech bays if most of the unplayable junk gets sold off. Of course, then PGI will change everything - again - and make some of that stuff meta, probably. What's the point? If everything is going to keep changing, there's no real point in grinding or investing in anything, IMHO.

nothing back from Russ, though after the jr high school level cryfest on the podcast, i wouldn't be shocked if he's just ignoring twitter in general for a few days, lol.

I forget if it was Metus or Orcrist who rebought some sold mechs on the PTS, but they said at least in it, their historic XP transferred, so I reckon that's about all I know for now.

it was me. I bought several Mechs I'd sold back when the flame was released, and they still had historic XP.

  • Sky is not falling (change is part of life, do hope that the loyal whales survive the change)
  • Personally don’t recommend selling anything before major changes (ST, new tech)
  • Consider getting/having at least 72,800 xp per mech, that you plan to play post ST. Its the current minimum xp amount required to unlock 91 nodes. Then add x amount extra, up to ~128K? not sure of total ST nodes, for not getting exactly how you want it first time around… and for patch adjustments.
  • Buy modules, don’t buy modules… I have been buying more modules since a bit before Christmas as a cBills saving scheme for ST.
  • Personally I have earmarked a couple of mechs, per weight class, that I plan to use as my guinea pig mechs for when ST drops. Hopefully they can ride out the subsequent balance/adjustment patches. These are the mechs that I will have at least ~128K of XP per variant (and haven’t relied on quirks to be effective).
  • Also been I have been playing Cicada 2A’s {insert favorite fun mech potentially losing all its cool/unique quirks}, as if it does, then it might not be getting much game time for a while.
  • Not sure that converting xp to gxp is ever ‘worth it’, would wait for a special/sales/event if I was going to.
Do pilot skills get refunded as historic gxp?

I'm certainly enjoying the module rewards I get from the supply crates, as they will be fully refunded. ;)

And will be utter trash for everyone... I know it's frustrating some Mechs will be worse than now but everyone will have to deal with it. Then I hope PGI will be able to see within stats the least played ones and try to adjust.

Ha this is the kind of reminder I was looking for... I have 2 keys so I better use them now or wait after patch if I prefer decals.

Since mechcon I've been trying out and then "locking in" fun, unique or meta builds for mechs. In anticipation that it would cost a lot of c-bills/xp to play with the mechlab and still have matching skills for your build.

Thankfully PGI woke up and changed the re-skill, but didn't fully drop the re-spec costs. Still drains 400XP ...I think... Lost track of what we are even getting now... :|

Modifying and testing your mastered, but non-concrete builds now, is probably still a good idea if you want to avoid the crushing oppression of an XP drain on every node change AND still test mastered builds.
