Regarding Skill Tree Economy, Currency and Skill Refunds, and the Concept of Lost Progress

While the full details of this change will require additional time to iron out, the eventual transition to the new Skill Tree will result in no loss of existing Skill/Mastery level progress.

Thank you for your sensitivity to those of us 4 year "module swapper" players that would have had a significant c-bill deficit (~250 million c-bills AFTER a 505 million c-bill module refund) to "skill up" our currently "mastered" mechs under the previously proposed change. I am looking forward to the next iteration of the skill tree and your other development for MWO in 2017.

Delayed again?

Respect!

Unespected this was. But looks like you're listening to feedback.
"Reducing the number of clicks required for using the Skill Tree is a piece of feedback we’ve seen consistently "

As i already wrote: this is no RPG, and BLIZZARD does them simpler.

I'm not sure if this will be noticed or seen, but I just wanted to weigh in here. The OP does address some of the concerns I have had as a relatively new player. I have several Mechs "Mastered," and have been going through the grind to "Master" more of them. I'd like to play in CW at some point without having handicapped mechs. I also need the C-Bills to get the appropriate modules, and also buy a sufficient number of mechs to enable "Mastery." The skill tree proposed before kind of made me feel like my grind was/is pointless until the skill tree comes out. This sort of stopped me from playing the game until the skill tree actually happens, because it made it seem like grinding to "Master" my paltry collection of mechs was pointless. The OP has alleviated that stress to a large degree, and I will start playing again. So, thank you for pulling me out of limbo.

HEAPS OF US HAVE BEEN BUYING MODULES KNOWING WE WOULD GET C-BILLS BACK BECAUSE OF SPEEDING UP DROPS NOT HAVING TO GO THROUGH MECHS TO FIND MODULES IF THEY GO BACK ON THAT GOODBYE ME CAUSE YOU ******* LIED AND I WASTED 60 MILLION C-BILLS WHICH EQUALS 100S OF HOURS GRINDING

Or do not play the futures market and play normal. Some play the stock market thinking they will only win. Do not be mad if they plan something and then decide it is not the way to go. If you feel you wasted time playing, maybe you did. I play because it is fun. Sometimes I grind for the prizes but I do not prepare for the unknown unless I am willing to pay the insurance. If you are playing the insurance game, do not be mad if you pay too much insurance. BTW, if you need 100s of hours grinding for 60 million Cbills, I hope you are stretching the truth, "LIED" . See how easy it is to call someone a fibber.?
Take it easy my friend and let the nice people try to do their job.

Please don't let this be a repeat of the Information Warfare and Energy Draw test sessions.

I do want to see a more engaging Skill Tree in MechWarrior Online, as well as a valid and valuable Information Warfare update (think how much easier IW would be with a deeper Skill Tree allowing players to invest in sensor systems as part of the IW initiative!) and even a potential return of the ideas and principles behind Energy Draw. These updates that keep getting pulled down and shelved forever bother me, and I'd hate to see the Skill Tree redux gone the same way.

People will always complain. I've done plenty of my own complaining in the ST PTS, if primarily about the Engine Redux and my rather strong opinions there, but it's all in service of a better MWO. We'll never get a better MWO if Piranha always ends up choking off improvement initiatives because the playerbase reacts poorly.

I hope lessons were learned all around over the course of this testing period, and I hope to see an improved Skill Tree in the relatively near future.

I have been buying modules like crazy for weeks, ever since they said "full refund on modules".

Now they are backpedaling on that?

Battlebunny, i love ya man, and your channel but betting on PGI giving you a refund was not a wise choice when you could of left your cbills alone until the refund happened. I adopted this stance and decided not to play MWO until the patch hits like many people to avoid buying mechs/modules. Im sure PGI will reimburse you some, but as stated, they need a solution for new players just making there account now.

OK, so imagine doing that for 200+ mechs.

....annnnnnnd then doing it again come March 21st.

You can't afford a new medium mech right now? You don't have any modules...uhm, I'm afraid that all those mechs waiting to get the 'elite' status will have to wait longer.

----

Then imagine a system in which those 4 mechs maintain their status and your next 4 mechs are easier to accumulate and skill out. -That's- what we're looking for.

With my main acount I own about 100 mechs. Am I playing all of them? No. Not even most of them!
I have about 10-20 favorites I am switching back and forth.

So why should I skill every single variant I own (mostly I were forced to buy them because of the rule of the three)?

If I am not some kind of completionist with a neurotic habit, I see no point in doing it.
Spending time and money for something that has been shelved for one to four years by now.
If I one day ... let's say ... I am in the mood to get my Trebuchet or Victors out for a walk, I can do it when the time has come.
But to be honest, most of the mechs I own havn't seen a fight for a long time.

For those of you that "bought modules like crazy" the past few weeks, you'll still get utility out of them and even if you get a 50% refund on them, unless you only just recently bought *any* modules, the chances are you got your money's worth out of them.

but again, I feel for PGI, even by trying to tell the user base what they intend to do and keep us in the loop, they can't win...

So Skill tree cancelled due to some beautiful criers yelling to leave... . Ok. I was expecting the tree as my last chance to stay in the game, as some ppl of my unit, but now with this cancellation, im sorry but there is not a reason to stay and play with the same greedy criers. Keep your modules and save your Cbills... and play alone, morons.

I was looking forward to the new skill tree after testing the last PTS. Hopefully it will not be postponed too long. Curious how they will handle the refunds and/or this reimbursement for time spent piece.

And I hope we still get to see all the announcements that were slated today for the new tech and new mech packs.

Thank you for this news and talking about all the progress that feels to be lost. That was my main concern about this post. I'm glad, I won't have to master all my 280 mechs again.

my biggest request from a redesign would be to make it so you do not have to take the weapon cooldown (rate of fire) skills to get to the heat reduction skills, the reason I would want the heat reduction is because the Mech runs hot, it is seriously counter productive to take rate of fire if the Mech was already running hot.

whine and cheese win again. Tried of supporting the comp crowd min max. Why bother anymore another push back on a system that was worth it. probably not in the majority in this thinking. hell I play for fun not twitch alpha one shot kills. That's all this game is becoming anymore. Or Back to ERPPC and gauss snipe or ERLL snipe poke.. whatever... I still adapt to the crap and move on not whine like we have not. Again money talks I guess.

So confused. Are you whining about folks using weapons effectively? You do know right that if you hit the group queue with brawlers whom push they will in most cases win over the Front Loaded Direct Fire crowd right? It is very difficult to kite away in the 12 man system effectively. Sure it almost never works in pug play but that is because everyone wants everyone else to be a meat shield which is why peak a boo works so well if you are good at it.

I few thoughts on the subject.

Many might view this as similar to power draw in that it might seemingly be delayed indefinitely, at this point in time that is certainly not the case. While energy draw showed some interesting promise and I would like re explore that at some point it was ultimately an experimental feature. The new skill tree is still viewed internally as a solid improvement to the balance of the game and the starting point for so many new balance methods.

As to the skill tree, I think some levels of disagreement on the right path for balance or the layout of the skill tree nodes would be expected and could be accepted. As the shortcomings in our transition process became clear and we could see that certain players were going to lose progress that became obviously unacceptable and we had no choice but to delay.

As Alex mentioned this discovery helped us realize we had to adjust our refund plan to one of refunding progress.

As we rectify these problems we will also take time to further refine the user interface as well as continue to make as many balance improvements as possible.

See, Russ? When you're not limited to 140 characters or less and actually look at the forums you make solid and reasonable points that people understand and sometimes even respect! Come here more often! Tell us what you're doing with X and why you're doing it!

The amount of whining here is insane.
Full stop, this was not ready to hit live

Reasons are listed right there in the post: it is not a friendly system to use. It is a chore to use, which has gotten some visual improvements, but still requires some fundamental tools before going live, such as bottom up auto selection, automatic tree traversal

That along with certain other implications, also stated in the post like the losing of progress.
The current system heavily favours veterans with the frontloaded costs, while the new system should be at least a it better for new players, while leaving some veterans feeling cheated. That is being addressed

There's also the obvious balance implications coming with the patch, where some very weak mechs are having large chunks of their firepower quirks removed. Things like the spider having half its cooldown quirks removed, down from 67%. Safe to say, he'll likely be losing its competitive place, but weaker robots are also included here such as the Phract

You guys saying "Change is needed!" Need to realize change also needs to be positive

This has the potential for that, but under the current state, it would not have been positive. Some fundamental items need to be adjusted for it to be largely accepted by the community. As a vocal minority, you cannot state what's best for the game.

McGral ... you stop this crap of making sense. No one here in this forum wants that. We need more forum drama!
