Click and drag. Start from point A and drag through the nodes you want from the very first top nodes, and then rinse and repeat for each side of a tree as needed.

Now instead of 300+ clicks per mech skill tree, it's down to around 15-20. :>

Alternatively, just make a compounding 'selection' via checkboxes or ctrl+click and allow the player to unlock all selected nodes unless there is a conflict. (i.e. node selected with no parent/whatever) I'm not a big fan of click and drag, its why I use a typed password on my phone instead of the drag combination.
