OK, so, I've just read it on Sarna that Micro Lasers were mostly used on clan battle armors like elementals.. they were so unimportant on mechs that the IS never bothered to replicate the technology..

This, in my opinion, can mean only two things..

Either, PGI is giving the clans just something to fill the numbers of new tech compared to all the stuff IS is getting.. (as if small lasers weren't gimpy enough)

or..

ELEMENTALS BABY!

What do you guys think?

EDIT:

A thought occurred to me... Maaaaybe micro lasers could be useful if they were continuous fire, like a no-ammo version of machine guns..

Also.. PGI... why you no make Bombast Laser?

They would of been used like machine guns to exterminate humans.

They wouldn't of been used in mech to mech combat.

i think they will be useful on some of the podspace starved clan omnis with absurd numbers of energy points. gargles, exe, most of the lights, etc.

Why, for being able to fit a MLX with ECM + ERPPC + ERµL, of course Posted Image.

(Just kidding. But it would be funny to introduce a whole new weapon type just for one build of one chassis Posted Image)

On a more serious note: If they deviate from the TT stats like they did with the SPL, they might do something like 1 heat, 3 damage, which would make for insanely good dph stats. At the cost of range and excessive hardpoints and slots usage, of course.
Also tiny beam duration, I guess.
Imagine 6x3 moreless pinpoint-frontloaded damage Posted Image

Yeah like machineguns RIGHT! Micro lazors still do same or higher damage than AC2 in TT.

On topic:
@ TT Micropulse =
Same damage as Clan and IS SPL.
Same range as IS SPL.
All that with ½ heat compared to both SPLs

PS. I don't want Elementals that have top speed of ~10kph stock urbies are painful enough and they go over 3 times faster :P

There is a variant of the Pirahna clan battlemech that replaces its 12 MGs with micro lasers. Maybe they're for that?

Consider that in battletech:

IS Small laser:
Damage 3
Heat 1
Range brackets 1/2/3

Clan ER small laser:
Damage 5
Heat: 2
Range brackets 1-2/3-4/5-6

The clan Micro Laser is more of an analogue between the Clan and IS machine guns. Same Damage and range, but clans get it for half the weight.

Clan ER Micro Laser:
Damage: 2
Heat: 1
Range Brackets: 1/2/3-4
0.25 Tons

Clan Micro Pulse Laser:
Damage: 3
Heat: 1
Range Brackets: 1/2/3
-2 to hit
0.5 tons

For big clan mechs, they won't be much use. For mechs like the Nova that have way more energy hardpoints than they can safely deal with, I imagine they'll find their niche. Maybe they'll even wave ghost heat or whatever mechanics they're using to punish huge alphas.

the problem is theres only one clan mech that has the speed and sheer number of hardpoints to make good use of micro lasers

the micro laser is an utterly pointless weapon to add for that reason. heavy lasers are pointless too for the opposite reason. That and the ERPPC is generally far better for the heat/range.

it makes far more sense to give clans ER pulse lasers as a new energy weapon.

clans should get HAGs too.

They "just" nerfed LPL range, why would they give us something better than it was before the nerf?

I've been thinking about this and the only thing I can think of is if they're not in the SL/ML ghost heat family, you could better utilize the 11E on a Viper. That's literally all I've come up with.

Crow got 13 energy slots, and Nova got 15 energy slots. If micro lasers have very relaxed Ghost Heat, they will be decent addition to Clan brawl deck that doesn't over heat easily.

Yeah, I wasn't clear but was thinking of NVA/SCR as being in similar boat (or even Purifier).

because its not better. ER pulses would have extra crits, extra heat, and longer cooldown to balance the extra range

duh.

it gives clans the range their pulses should rightfully have without making it unbalanced.

that and giving clans ER pulse is far more useful than giving them utterly useless micro and heavy lasers.

also lets not forget that IS is getting ER medium lasers. So clans need something extra in the ER laser department. ER pulses make perfect sense.

2 ER-Micros for every hardpoint?

Oh wait, then its a crappier ER-Small.

Maybe if the ROF is through the roof. So one micro can out-DPS a small. It might work.

ER Pulse always made me roll my eyes. "What can we do to make pulse lasers better? EXTENDED RANGE Pulse lasers, yeahhh!!!" Heavy lasers are at least interesting because they do something different, and Micro make sense.

Kind of silly also to say "Oh the dirty IS is getting something that we've had since the beginning, we *must* have more toys."

Don't see the point adding pulse lasers with ridiculous levels of duration and heat just for a few extra meters in range.

So nty to ER pulse lasers thank you.

There is no useful role for ER Pulses in the game, Clans already benefit from pulse lasers with high optimal ranges, and IS VS Clan battles really don't need a pulse weapon that goes as far as a comparable ER laser.

Looking at micro lasers and rocket launchers, will these signify some kind of multiples per hardpoint system? Maybe even sized hardpoints?

Well with Elementals being only 1t battle armour, do you know how tiny they would be? They are literally 5% of the mass of a Locust and we all know how small they are... They could take cover behind anything! They also pack a jump of 3 in TT, considering their weight, they'd be able to fly better than a Viper!
