(sorry quote didn't paste right from will for some reason)
don't be ridiculous.

the onus is not on your customer to come up with a better product/service in order to prove your product/service sucks.

i mean, if i buy a car and the damn thing breaks down every other mile, the manufacturer better not tell me to "show me you can design a better car, if not shut up and suck it up."

Will, then If your Toyota is a P.O.S. why are you still driving it? Get the point across to the manufacturer and sell off and get a different brand.

I am seeing the reoccurring issue here from founders and long term vets alike. At least the negative towards the devs ones. I get it now, you were given a promise and it didn't come through. Yet you guys belly ache on thread after thread and don't leave. Then multiples of you argue and yell at new players for sucking and everything around this game sucks... but you are still here. Stifling the ability of a newer player base to enjoy it.

I'm sure not all veterans are like this. Thank goodness for that. Some have been amazing. As for what made me "rant" in the first place. I read that proverbial straw of anger filled thread that ad the over tone of I am right, you are wrong, so deal with it, from another player. It's so common. So yes, I have now failed to keep my mouth shut and many don't care for my opinion either. So the gifs and insults fly... it brings it out of me even more. I failed to stay nice and silent.

Shortbus, I love this game. I loved MW 3 & 4. Didn't have the pleasure of the other games. But its likely that with the way things are going, you wont get enough "freshly-caught" starters to keep this game you guys feel is so trashed, to keep going. I don't want to sit here and use your cliché terms like salty. I want to say could you enjoy what you have? So all of us can? If you think its so friggin bad, choose another game and stop putting your money in this one. Don't keep saying youre rage quiting, good bye cruel world.

I want to respect all the gamers in this community. I know the respect of one pissed off player amounts to nothing but as a whole if we just played the game we didn't actually have to pay a penny for what it is....

I bet each of you are amazing people and great players when you want to be. I am sorry you veterans feel so screwed over. But this jalopy is the one you are still driving.

What got me most is how can he speak for the 90%. I'm pretty sure - that the forums - with the average of 1.000 users browsing consists of more than just 10% of the community. And if they're buying mechpacks, it would be a pretty good chance they're visiting the homepage and the forums as well, which would make it the core playerbase, and not the vocal minority - IMHO.

I'm talking simply about the ones that are pissed and complaining all the time. And before this gets real stupid, no I did not find statistics to base the percentage. I made that up... obviously. "IMHO"

Me: "Oh, a post from a player talking about how he's having fun. Good for him."

'reaches the point where he starts saying complaining about people pointing out actual problems with changes PGI is trying to implement'

Arbiter Sokar, if you enjoy the game for what it is, all good in my book but once you delve in the Battletech universe you will quickly find that there is more to it than just a simple arena shooter ( Solaris7 ) The Battletech universe is rich, more than Mechs and a code which PGI doesn't apply. In time once you know more you will be part of the crowd that ask for more than just Solaris7.

Thank you for that perspective. It makes more sense. I agree if you are into lore you could have a problem with this. But lets say you are a veteran of this game and the lore alike and when new players come to help expand the player base and they see nothing but negativity about literally every aspect of the game, then become targeted themselves because of the veterans perceived inefficiencies of the MM coding/selection process causing the new players who do not have skill and knowledge of the game to match those veterans, they are subject to aggressive disrespect from said players. This inherently pushes those players away causing another cascading issue that works back around to the MM problem in the first place.... a lack of fresh players.
I have read so many threads about how the player base is dwindling or stagnant at least.
So many threads about MM pitting T1 with T5.
So many threads about potatoes which in my ignorance I still don't get the reference. I get who it refers to but I guess lingo isn't my strong point.
I will be the first to admit, I am T5 cause I don't have the skill. I try to play as a team. I try to take in advice from those who are constructive. But isn't the new player whom is easier to take down a source of this KDR so many people are worried about? Survival of the fittest and all that?
I really just want people to treat other players with some respect... this atmosphere has obviously taken my ability to do so. Put an innocent man in prison and he becomes an institutionalized criminal.

I applaud them for their efforts given how 10% of this community treats them. It's no wonder they probably don't read these forums for their own creation.

I thank the 90% of you who just play this game because it is just that. A game. I enjoy losing a game with fellow pugs as much as I love stomping them the next game. I appreciate you sticking it out despite some toxicity both in game and in these forums. I am so glad some of you actually helped me get a little better rather than dismissing me as a "potato" or "stupid p.u.g.". Those players were actually useful. Thank you so much.

Those of you elite tier 1 ninja mech pilots who are out of touch and negative... I am so sorry for you. You bash each other and the devs, then complain about every single thing. I want change but not that change... This was free but not good enough... Stupid noobs... Etc. I poi t out one thing to those of you negative players..

Take a look at your posts.

How many views versus how many replies.

Do you think maybe 90% are actually laughing at your pathetic crying or laughing with you?

If you really want P.G.I. or p.u.g.s. to change in favorable ways, make a business plan for them to look at rather than complaining or insulting. Train that p.u.g. to be more competitive rather than driving him off... God knows I like pugs for easier kills so I let them play how they want even if I have to team with them occasionally.(edit: originally when I stated this it came off wrong. I also am a tier 5 pug and on the same level. I mean this as a give and take peer level. I lose to them too.)

I've read this forum enough to know bishop Steiner will have a quip (edit: bishop I said you would have a quip, not take either side) and I already know most of your negative responses... So just don't waste my time. Please just challenge yourself to change. Be the light rather than that dark.....

With the new patch, the IS is clearly OP, and the clans will cease to exist cuz evry1 will be playing IS. PGI plz nerf ggclose

Rather abysmal way to introduce yourself to the community. You would have an easier time making a point if you avoided the hypocrisy, the broadly generalized statements, and the baseless accusations.

Well, firstly it's easy to tell you are new to the game and the forums because you actually used "PGI" and "business plan" in the same sentence. Seriously....you've been here 4 months and you think you have better insight into the game and the goings on here than people who have stuck it out over the past 5 years? Not even close.

You basically had no clue about all the missteps and fiascoes that have gone on around her the the 4 years and 8 months preceding your timely arrival. You weren't around the multitude of times PGI really stepped in it with the community. I won't bother listing everything, it would take too much time. With that in mind I will cut you some slack.

As for Bishop, take a look at the ridiculous number of "likes" Bishop has for his posts. A large percentage of those posts/likes come from supporting the game and the developers over the years, not being negative. He's probably one of the most credible posters in these forums and to see a player like you with 2 MONTHS experience lecture him is, well, it's sad and funny at the same time. Many will tell you that it's really just over the past year or so that he's trended towards being jaded and cynical, sometimes about the game, other times the Devs, many times the players. Keep in mind that this comes from a player who just as often isn't on the same side as Bishop.

You son, are sadly misinformed and your opinion is valueless after reading this post.

There is no solution. I invite you to form a massive majority that agrees on key points that need change. I challenge you to come up with a business plan not a complaint. I challenge you to present it and push it with dignity and respect for the other players and the devs. (Red dragon, I'm not targeting you specifically)

my reaction to the proverbial pos toyota has no bearing on how ridiculous it is to challenge a CUSTOMER to come up with a better product or service, which is exactly what you did.

not to mention we ARE "get(ting) the point across to the manufacturer". which is what upset you enough to challenge us to do better, isn't it?

you're beating the strawman when you start lumping everyone who dislikes the skill tree (in its latest iteration) as bittervets and such. just because i don't like what pgi did with the skill tree doesn't mean i hate pgi and hate everything it does.

i actually like certain things they do (like alex's consistently spectacular work on art) and dislike other things they do (like lack of clear communication and paul's inability to balance things even on a flat surface). hell, i'm even pre-ordering the uziel so my wallet isn't closed.

the juvenile "you're either with me or against me" approach doesn't work when people, organizations and companies can do both good and bad.

And they said I went on a tangent...
I skimmed my posts and can't find where I used the words "Skill Tree" for any point I was making so no I cannot explain how I challenged the player base to come up with a better one. Maybe I missed it.. and I'm sure someone will quote it if I specifically said "Skill Tree" in direct reference to the point you are asking about.

My comment about the Toyota was otherwise a rather simple analogy I thought.

This comment only refers to the negative players (not every person who is taking offence because they love drama) who have done nothing but complain. It does not refer to those players who have had constructive comments and suggestions for PGI. I understand from their posts that they feel PGI ignores them and I am sorry for that. But it is not practical for any company to make a change that person A suggests when person B is in a fiery oratory about the cons of the situation. The company must then find either a mid ground or a different solution.

The posts you referenced had nothing to do specifically with skill tree so I am not sure how to answer you.

The overall point I am making and really what was least important in my mind from my original post was this:

For those of you who are so certain that PGI is running this title into the ground... why are you still pouring time, effort, money, and emotion into it? You drag the experience for those of us enjoying it down.

If PGI is a figurative train moving at 30 mph towards a ravine that you BELIEVE the bridge is incomplete, do you:
A: As a person having ridden this train from the beginning, knowing the likely intentions of the conductor, use logic and cut your losses and jump off of the slow moving train?

B:Stay on the train believing in Back to the Future 3 style plot and once the train hits 88mph the train will magically jump forward to a better tomorrow and the bridge will be complete?

C: Stay on the train knowing what is going to happen, see a can of gasoline and decide to lock the doors and set us all on fire?

or D: Your are like many other riders that just got on at the last stop whom fortunately haven't had to deal with all the crap in the past and are simply enjoying the scenery and keeping a watchful eye out so we can get off in time?

Let those of us players who aren't jaded enjoy the scenery. You've done your job and warned us about the ravine... we get it. You saw it coming! Praise be to you oracle!!

I just can't understand why those players who are so friggin sure that this game title is so gone and destroyed by the horrible devs can't move on. I'm sorry you put too much money in and you are pissed. I capped off real money real quick because I got only what I wanted. I don't have to have the newest mech when it first comes out. I don't need a stable of a hundred horses to feel like it makes me a better mech player. I play the game I enjoy and once the c bills are there, if I desire another digital toy robot to play with, then I will spend the fake digital money on it. Sure I customized a few things. But you know what, PGI gave me exactly what I was WILLING TO SPEND THE MONEY ON. When I feel the game itself suffers so greatly... I will move on.

You won't get a definite answer on that. There are many reasons, maybe as many as there are players. Some may be:
  • We care for the franchise and since this is the only BT title currently out there, we still feel part of the community
  • We still hope that the game can improve
  • We want to keep new players from making the same mistakes that we did (i.e. spending money on empty promises)
  • We put a lot of money into the game so it's our right to sit here and yell at the Devs Posted Image
  • Maybe some find it even funny to see time and again how PGI fails at even the simplest of tasks
