Buyers Remorse?

Whats the general consensus of purchasing mech packs, or pre-order? Generally satisfied with purchase or did you come out the other side being like....yeah I'm not doing that again. Next time I'll wait?
This is a GENERALIZATION...not per mech. Overall would you throw down cash again?
I was talking over VOIP with some folks and some of them were like, yeah I haven't bought a mech for $$$ in about 4 years. Kinda made me stop and think a little.

The Uziel has high mounts, great.... to bad they are way above the cockpit, that means archer like problems, meaning lots of your mech exposed before you can safely fire. The Uziel also is going to likely have wide ST's, this means if it runs an XL, it is going to get XL checked easy.... If running LFE/Standard it's going to be slower and hotter.... I think this mech is a case of nostalgia, and people that wanted it for the nostalgia need to be aware that it is not going to do too well in MWO's live environment.... kind of like the Bushwacker.
The Mad Cat Mk. II will be solid, but risky due to having the bulk of it's fire power in it's fantastic sheild arms.... Mauler, meh... I don't enjoy mine, so I wouldn't waste my money.
I've only really pre-ordered four mech packs, Clan Wave 2, the Warhammer, the Phoenix Hawk (I knew what I was getting into there, well before hand) and the Bushwacker (again, I knew it would have long ST's from the side going into it.). So long as you go into the pre-order knowing the likely performance of the mech, you should be okay... that being said, yea I felt a little burned after Wave 2... but I bought it to get the Mad Dog (I) variant, so not a total wash, I got two good mechs in that wave....

If it makes you happy, throw down. If however, you are concerned about it being nerfed, gutted, trashed and thrown in the back of the closet then no, you should not spend any real $ on this game. I am certain there are some folks who bought collector packs last year just to get the loyalty Summoner. I am sure some of them will have some advice for you. But from the now lost fun of the rapid fire Huggin to the machine gunning glee of the Arrow; there are plenty of examples of PGI taking what makes a Hero or "special" mech special and taking it away. Add the uncertainty of the skill tree, its associated nerfs and the applicability of new tech...and the chances of your purchase being negatively affected seems to approach that of inevitability.

I usually pre-order the minimum $20 for 3 mechs pack and then you get the goodies for pre-ordering. Later if I like the mech when its released and I'm playing it I can decide (like in the case of the Marauders and Kodiak) to buy the additional mechs and hero mech. Prices are the same as if you pre-order them.

$25 is a nice meal at a restraunt , or you can buy a robot for hours of enjoyment.
People buy dresses for their dogs these days , to each his own i guess.
You could spend your money in worse ways than buying mechs i suppose.

I don't pre-order anything. As tempting as the colors and extra c-bills are. But I do buy mech packs after they release. But only the $20 standard packs.

Then you're going to be waiting a long time.
Edit: Let me just add. If you enjoy this game for what it is, you'll be happier.

The main reason the buy the mechpack is to save yourself the time of grinding out cbills for the mechs you are buying.
So basically if you can make real money quick enough to afford to buy a pack and want some mechs it's a fair deal.
Just don't go on a crazy shopping spree.
Now as far as hero's go, I prefer to wait for them to go on sale, buy them with MC that I got on sale.

Every mech gets nerfed, so it's a certainty that every future mech will get nerfed too. This fact bothers me a lot and has lead to me spending less money on the game than I used to. I hate nerfs more than anything else.
Having said that, if you like the new mechs then go for it. Besides, the new weapons tech might open up some new possibilities (and invariably a new nerf crusade).

Here, we're getting 4 new mechs (2 clan, 2 IS. I'm not sure why the store panel is claiming there are "8"). The "new tech" looks to be very few new mechanics, just the old tech with changed values and new graphics (I hope). No new faction banners (Kind of lame to do a FedCom Civil War when you never bothered to include a FedCom faction in your game).
As for the mechs we're getting? I was really looking forward to PGI rolling out a big sale, like the Clan Invasion. Since I only run IS, I've only got two mechs to choose from, and I'm not enamored with either the Annihilator or the Uziel, so I'm probably going to pass on purchasing and just be putting new tech on my old gear.
Also, shouldn't there have been some sort of special CW event ready to go for the roll out? A Davion/Steiner square-off? Instead it looks like the CW dynamic is and will always be Clan vs. IS.
I feel like it all adds up to weak tea. But that's just my opinion; your mileage may vary.

As far as the heros? If you like the chassis do it...I really enjoy my Warrent and have run the hell out of it! The current mech pack for sale? I bought the ultimate for both...why? Well for the Mk II anyoe that knows me well it would have been a safe bet lol. The Cougar? Although a rather meh mech, I am supporting light mechs cause well if they don't sell well....they won't keep adding them!
TL:DR I always feel I get my money worth atleast for ordering the base packs, reinforcements, and/or heros. Collectors is always novelty and I admit that it is not required.

Wolfhound Hero (ECM)
Enforcer Hero (ECM)
Adder Hero just to do the build no one has done.
Still, cannot find it in me to do it, money always goes elsewhere.

Generally? Happy with my purchases, Wave II being the biggest exception.
Looking to buy;
All Resistance Heroes (except Zeus)
Uziel Ultimate
Cougar Ultimate
Mad Cat Mk II Ultimate
But only after either;
1. They release an improved version of the Skill Tree and the new weapons are reasonably well balanced
2. My willpower breaks and I cave!

Pretty much if you're having fun, buy something.
Don't buy on the expectation of what things will be, but based on how you're feeling about the game now, and in the past several months.
Pre-orders are a risk. Buy only if you already know you'll like the 'mech (nostalgia); if it's a guaranteed win (the Kodiak, MAD-IIC, probably the MKII); or if it's something you've been waiting for for a long time (the Javelin for me).
Picking up an existing 'mechpack or hero is pretty low-risk. You've played or played against the 'mechs, and others can help you evaluatue their utility. In that case it's pretty much pay to not grind. I just picked up the Cyclops pack and was enjoying it until I decided to take a month-long break from video games (day 4...)

So, you really only need to ask yourself 3 questions;
1 - Will I enjoy playing the mech no matter what the unknown stats may be?
2 - Is there enough of a desire to own the early adopter items. Especially the ones you can only buy with MC.
3 - Do I want another 25 grab bag chances?
For me, I'm holding off for now. Some of the early adopter items are interesting. Want to see what next weeks patch holds, what might be on the next PTS (if announced before April 1), and what I get for goodies from the grab bag. If I get lots of crap, then nope. Consider that they are not giving Mech Bays as a potential item.
