It's their first Con and eSport thing, things will get better. They did have a thing where someone gave a Cent away for the mechcon, thats advertisement.

Your correct, I'd forgotten about the Cent

How was the NCIX Cent give away an advertisement for MWO? The only folks aware of it were existing players. The only people it was targeted to were forum users of the game. I think it was an advertisement for NCIX more than it was an advertisement for MWO.

Because it's NCIX that made a vid about it. It's NCIX that gave away the mech. It's NCIX that talked about mwo to their customers.

Yeah cross promotion is definitely part of an over all marketing strategy, BUT, that's just it, it's ONLY A PART of an actual strategy, not a complete one in and of itself.

I'd definitely like to see more of this sort of thing though.

It wasn't that bad at all, BUT, it's a pep rally intended for informing and retaining CURRENT customers.

That sort of thing does very little to inform and encourage "new" customers, however.

grab those straws! choke them! Yeah i think you're grabbing at straws. But yeah, maybe their marketing strategy might not have been to your level of adequacy but it was there none the less. We know all ncix customers saw the add, considering they have been in business longer than can remember, people saw it.

Im not into watching others play and i dont visit those website so i wouldnt know what kind of advertisement was done but i can tell you the day after, many of my news website were on the MW5 trailers and had people talking. That was their good hit for pgi. I dunno how mw5 will benefit MWO in the long run. We already hope they get the expertise on the new engine to switch smoothly but more things could come out of it.

So there was some aspect of NCIX touting MWO and not just the mech give away here. That is good to know, and certainly a step in the right direction. Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah no, I really don't see it being up to anyone's standard. So many games out there have had simultaneous television and print advertising, cross promotional offerings, and web based advertising, heck some even work with comic book publishers to have comics produced (a really intelligent thing to do actually).

It seems like PGI is doing it in a lackadaisical manner, more of a token effort to get players into the game.

It's a regular complaint that the game lacks enough people playing for MM to be effective, well, a lack of advertising would certainly be a reason.

Great, and for the long period of time between now and MW5's release?

Sure, PGI's done a little, but that's about as much as we can say...

I have seen some of the worst games making advertising in german TV, stuff like Aura Kingdom. If they can, it must be quite cheap and then also MWO can.

Yup, not to mention all these anime related MMOs, plus the occasional non anime MMO, that I see in anime related sites.

During the Steam launch they sponsored several youtubers. Particularly those that played World of Tanks or War Thunder. A sensible strategy. Course that one old guy turned it down quite publically, claiming he would play it eventually, but never did as far as I know.

Someone gave a Clan pack to Lirik on Twitch. He averages 30k viewers. Obliterating MWO's most viewers record, probably. Credit to our nicer segment of the community there were people in the chat helping him figure things out. And I saw people saying the game looked interesting.

That "old guy" which I think might be the Mighty Jingles, will accept a sponsored game, but only if he likes it. Lately he has taken a good liking on a new game called Tiger Knight Empire Wars, which so far everything I have seen about it is quite impressive. Should note that I first saw the game through Phlydaly.

These wargames, War Thunder included, has built a strong community of YouTubers. In World of Warships, well known YouTubers are given Community Contributors status, a label which shows in their forum avatars. They are allowed early access to content, though not allowed to publicize videos until the NDA has expired.

Yeah, but he could have just turned it down and not said anything. Instead I feel like he was just trying to show off.

I have the best idea for an ad campaign, ever. Someone get Russ on the batphone, this can't fail:

This is still, to date, one of the most cringe-inducing things I've ever seen.

If they were smart they would team up with HBS and do a special introductory promotion for MWO thats tied in or related to the release of Battletech. It wouldn't be unreasonable since they're helping out HBS with mech assets.

no if they were smart they would have fallowed the original plan of a mech simulator an not this horrible MechWarrior game. I honestly think if MWO was calling like stommpy robot battle then the game would have been less a disappointment then what it is now.

Just to see what the google presence looks like, I typed in just "mechwarrior" into googgle. Top hits are nothing odd. But the 5th entry caught my eye: The PC gamer article from mechcon where they interviewed Russ about MW5. Clicked on it and the first paragraph ends with this quote from Russ:

"One thing we've learned over [time] is just to be cautious with expectations with our playerbase," he says. "We want to make sure we're really certain about things before they go out."

Considering the present circumstances around this game, I can't properly express the degree of confidence and hope that that comment fills me with toward MW5. No better advertisement is needed frankly.

really Russ/ PGI is working on MW5.... great MW5 is already a flop maybe MW6 will be good

Surprised no one has mentioned the PC Gamer magazine promotion in MWO's early days that gave away the free exclusive colours. The game was on the cover for that month, too.

Guess nobody else here was around in closed beta?

I was and have the colours and patterns to prove it. I think my DDC Atlas still sports the pattern to this day (different colors though).

However I think the OP is referring to more recently. IE the post IGP period.

My guess he tried it, and didn't like it.

MoltenMetal has decent presentation in YouTube, is entertaining enough, but you can imagine the impact games have on your YouTube views.

Here is the average on a week's count on his videos.

Compare that to a few other YouTubers I subscribe. In this order, Adrian Chong, Baron von Gamez, and the Mighty Jingles.

If you think Jingles is doing well, he has nothing compared to the Pokemon Go players.

Yes I remember that, but seriously, that was what... 4 years ago.

My point is what is PGI doing NOW, TODAY, to market this game to new players.

An article from 4 years ago really isn't adding new customers today...
