It isn't a Medium, it's a Light - treat it as such.

I mean, it brings a missile based zoom and boom medium mech with jump jets. That profile alone is technically new for the IS, and currently only exists with a brawlfit Shadow Cat. While I do not pilot IS mechs, I see a lot of potential in the one that can take 4 SRM launchers, as it does remind me of my 'Cat, very closely, and it tends to perform well enough. Going pure splat, it would be a solid little brawler in Scouting Mode, or if you needed to trim tonnage on a CW Invasion deck, but didn't want to give up brawling.
More importantly, it looks fun to pilot. This is a game, right? So the innate enjoyment of piloting a chassis should mean something, right?

I always find it hilarious when people say this about a mech. I wonder what you were expecting? Honestly it's pretty obvious what the Assassin does that wasn't being done before, it's a primarily missile based 40 ton mech which is something the Cicada really cant do. In a drop deck this has it's uses. Personally, I find it's best to think of it as a light that's spent too much time at the gym and thus can do what the lights do but with a higher survival rate. Plus on that missile thing, one of the variants has four missile hard points spread evenly across two side-torsos, quad SRM-6 with Artemis anyone? The only flaw in the design is that it needs up-armoring out of the box as speed isn't really a fair exchange for armor.

Game has been out for a few years. Given as everything in game is mostly the different arrangement of the same blocks, I'm unclear as to how you could have been expecting some sort of fresh, new, transcendent experience.

Notice however, I said fun. It's definitely not the best. The CDA can do the Speed/Laser Vomit better, the PXH can haul more weapons, and the Shadowcat...well Clan-Tech. But none of those are as fun as the ASN.

Depending on the variant I'll add 2x SRM2 launchers or play with the speed a bit, but overall I'm running the same basic build on all five variants.
I really enjoy the mobility, the quick punch, and the JJ performance. I move all over the battlefield getting in what shots I can and always trying to get behind the assaults and heavies for some rear torso fun. I usually play a sniper/skirmish mech so having something that works in close is new to me, but it's also a great change of pace.
