Escort ends up paying less a vast majority of the time because people just kill the VIP instead of having a longer drawn out battle. Conquest timers take long enough that the battle has usually happened and is done before it counts down.

Pretty much this, while I personally love Escort it's not that rare for the VIP to get destroyed very early on because the defending team wasn't paying attention.

If you are complaining about camping, you may have never played MW4:Mercs.

The Atlas, instead of following a predefined path follows the company commander of the defensive unit.
The "beacon" or destination is known to the defensive unit at the start of the game and the time limit is set.
The dropship arrives when the Altas is 800M out from the location.
If the company commander dies the next nearest team mech to the atlas is chosen and it then follows it
If no one selects being the company commander a random mech from Charlie company is selected.
