My opinion still stands that Adder is a decent fire support 'Mech, at least in QP.

That said, it's a bit slow and big for a Light which everyone already knows. The 5ERML loadout works if your team pushes and you know how to position yourself amidst the chaos so you don't take enemy fire.

For the majority of time, I find that dual ERPPC (doesn't really need the weapon quirks but they help) suits its role the best. Because of the long range capability that you have, you can directly engage the enemy more often without receiving significant incoming fire. You can also flank the enemy and lock them down from range without fearing too much that they will steamroll you in any second.

I think the upcoming Cougar would have similar role but it can't operate alone (as a flanker) because of the even slower speed so it should stay with the team. Thankfully it has ECM and JJs so you can make a poor imitation of the Shadow Cat dual ERPPC poptart.

I think the Cougar, while not hideous, is not going to be in a fantastic position, due have an extra poor dub (for a total of 3), this is going to leave it running hotter than the Adder while at the same time being slower than the Adder... It leaves me going, "Why not just use the Adder?" Or if I want to do the toaster pastry thing, "Why not use a Shadow Cat?"

Yeah, it will need help (quirks).

That said, you can make a Gauss+3ERML + ECM loadout on a Light, for what it's worth.

Well it should get a 15% dissipation quirk like the mist Lynx and Kit Fox. It also has the tonnage to do 6 ER MLs with 19 DHS, ECM, and a TC2, or 6 MPLs with ECM and 16 DHS, or 4 SRM6 w/art and ECM and 7 tons for ammo and DHS, or 4 strk 6s, both with more ammo/DHS than the Adder can. It will have some serious draw backs for sure, but its a pretty strong mini-medium. It will obviously need quirks to make those builds practical/worth it though, as a 87 kph light...

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.... Heavy Ballistic weapons never work well on light mechs, too much investment for too little returns.

While all true, It's a light that will not be able to out run many of the clan medium and heavies.... I'm not sure that's a good trade off for the extra utility it will bring.

It doesn't have to outrun them if it is close to its team of fatties. Especially with ECM, it shouldn't draw as much initial aggro.

I can't wait for the Cougar, one of my favorites. I'm hoping a pair of snub nose PPC's and a few SRM racks will fit well.

So you're looking forward to the mech without knowing what its capabilities are?

And yes, it can do up to 4 missiles (one per arm and side torso).

It was a favorite from MW4. I haven't delved into the details on most of them yet.

Well, keep in mind that MW4 gave you way more customization options on the Cougar than MWO will. This mainly took the form of letting you jack up the engine, but MW4 also let you get JJ's without sacrificing side torso weapon hardpoints.

The basic details are posted on the sale page...

Just accept it will not fulfill that nostalgia just like the Shadow Cat and Bushwacker have failed in that regard. Just like the Nova Cat won't either (since you can't do 7 gun without exploding).

Not stressing the builds just yet. Mostly excited because its a sexy beast and I love it.

I'm interested in the Cougar (mainly because I like oddball 'mechs in mwo), but the Adder will still be better. 104 compared to 87 is a big difference in terms of light 'mech speed. The Adder already has a massive amount of podspace for its size. I think it is in the best possible position to be a high damage fire support light.

The Cougar, while even more powerful, will be simply too slow. Jumpjets won't help.

Adder runs just a bit too fast for my liking and has just a bit less podspace for my liking. Cougar addresses both issues. And it has ECM! Cougar > Adder, for its commonly used role of escort and support.

Yeah, I tend to go too far in front of the group and die since it runs faster than the pack. And the Adder is not fast enough to get out once it is in trouble. With Cougar I will not overextend even if I wanted to. Plus ECM will help to cover some of my mistakes.

2x PPC Adder or bust. Best loadout for it, hands down.

Anyways, Cougar? I'm probably going to load it up with ATMs/Heavy Lasers and just use it as a side gunner for my Assault lance. Best option it has really.
