Oooh! It's a marketing ploy? Whew. Here I just figured it was a list of the best, most competitive mechs in PGI's mind, so I figured I better avoid them since if they really are the most competitive they are about to get hit with the nerf bat.
But since that isn't the case, we can all just enjoy a discount on these totally average in every way mechs. Yay!

It's not really a marketing ploy necessarily.

Outside of the 85-tonners (which you'll probably not see a Stalker unless it's DivE or something), the others are more or less comp-meta mechs.

I guess I have no excuse to avoid buying a KDK-3.

As one of the MRBC administrators I worked with PGI to put on a sale to compliment the upcoming MRBC season in addition to benefiting other 3rd party comp leagues. The list of mechs were not intended to be all encompassing, instead providing discounts on SOME mechs that frequently see play in comp. This isn't meant to be a metamechs list. Stalker and Warhawk are both underperforming at the moment compared to their peers but the MRBC ruleset for season 9 specifically calls for an 85 tonner in drop 3. It didn't feel right to only put a sale on one or two of the 4 options.

A huge thanks to PGI for working with me to benefit the league and its competitors. Your continued and growing support is much appreciated.

And that, was my overly snide point. Head balance dev has indeed over the years spoken of how all mech are equally competitive. All mechs are to have a roll and be equivalent regardless of that role.

An officially sanctioned PGI sales event that recognizes that there are indeed "competitive" mechs...mechs that are in fact better than others for the purpose of shooting and killing other mechs either in game or in MRBC...is sort of in conflict (at least to my mind) of his equally official line that there "data" driven balance efforts have resulted in the system wherein he and Russ have stated that all mechs are equal. So which is it?

Some mechs are better (a fact we the players all know) or do they really believe their oft cited "data" as really showing that they have balanced mechs? It sure aint both.

But do consider my fellow players, if PGI is -by identifying these mechs- in fact acknowledging that certain mechs are in fact better than others, what do you think they will do with that data?

Enjoy your purchases.

Illuminati Altas demands a cbill sacrifice indeed.

"he and Russ have stated that all mechs are equal." LMAO
Since they're identical, please let them explain the price differences.

I think the actual case is PGI actually being told what to sell/offer based on the most commonly used mechs (with a special case of the 85-tonners) in one league.

It's not proof or an indictment that PGI knows what the meta/comp mechs are.

Bought my third Night Gyr and thinking about getting a second Kodiak-3. No need for a Huntsman when I already have Hunchback IICs+Stormcrows+Shadow Cats.

How much better is a Battlemaster if one already has some Stalkers?
Same question for Night Gyr over Timber.

I'm so confused. If Paul says all mechs are equally competitive, how can only certain mechs be "competitive" for purposes of this sale?

So very, very confused.

Better nerf some more mechs so I get a better understanding of the REALLY competitive ones.

Well this might be hard for you to understand, but this sale is to help bring people wanting to play competitive leagues a fast route.
Mechs (builds) that work in 4v4, 8v8 in a private lobby don't always work in solo and QP.

Its hard to nerf mechs with good hardpoints, so they are safe to buy.

The words you are looking for when it comes to a REAL sale is thank you...........

Battlemaster has quirks, Night gyr can pop better ( all depends on what builds you want to run )

PGI -

Thank you for the event, the free goodies and mech that came with it, and thanks for this sale. It's greatly appreciated. I sincerely hope some of the newer players are able to jump on these deals.

I did too. Well, 2 days back. In theory we could write an Email to support begging for a discount but I can't quite do it. I already scored the free Banshee, MC, Cbills, and 3 days of Premium time that I abused for as many hours as I could. Over the discount cost of one mech, I'm kinda really okay with it as it is.

"Thank you?" Thank you for making mechs that are already the most predominant in the game, more likely to be predominant? Thank you after we just had a PTS on a new skills tree where one of the core stated goals was to increase mech diversity and builds? No I don;t think I will say thank you.

I know I should be used to PGI working against their own stated goals, but this one just strikes me as blatant since there are several in play. I find it amusing that we all know some mechs are better than others. We have competitive leagues with competitive players that prove it, everyday. PGI even had an event where some of these mechs were demonstrated as being the truly superior mechs that they are. There is a reason that these mechs are the most common in CW and in everyday play.

Yet for four years PGI's official stance has been that such mechs do not exist. That's why we have quirks, etc. which -according to them- provides balance to the extant that "all mechs down to the variant level be provided with a roll and all mechs regardless of their roll are of equivalent value." That paraphrase comes from the first PTS and directly from the balance overlord.

Returning to the issue at hand. For the last two years mechs have been quirked, nerfed and nerfed again for that so-called balance. Some of the worst mechs in this game have been nerfed -repeatedly- because according to PGI the data supports such nerfs. Now here we are, a sale where these same folks have for the first time acknowledged, even labeled, numerous mechs as being competitive verses others that are implicitly not. Balanced?

Go ahead, buy your MRBC mechs, enjoy them. When they are nerfed just in time for the finals because the "data" shows that they are "performing above their internally targeted values" just be ready for it. History around here suggests no other outcome. Or alternatively, enjoy your competitive mechs, because I guess we didn't have enough of the top tier mechs dominating at all levels of play already? Good luck that diversity goal PGI.
