Why have the PTS server up, if there's nothing on it?
No new mechs
No new tech
No new skill tree
No nothing...
Hell, nobody is even on!

It's for the new game mode "Skirmish 5.0".

There's a new game mode named Incursion being tested. It's the new revamped assault mode that we were promised a while back that PGI decided was too different from actual assault mode to just be put into the game as the new assault mode so they named it something else. The dumb thing about this though is once again they have thrown up a PTS in the middle of an event that makes everyone want to play live to get free stuff and nobody wants to test. I have no idea why PGI keeps doing this.

New mode, which due to PGI not getting why everything always becomes skirmish anyways is just another skirmish mode is just another skirmish mode. Also given there is no reward for playing on PTS nobody is playing on it so, yeah.

I'd log on to try it but yeah, I'm expecting yet another skirmish. And let's be real here, on the off chance that it's not yet another skirmish it'll be voted against even harder than Escort.

escort is still skirmish =p the only NOT skirmish things are Conquest once the opposing team reaches ~500 (because it will keep going even if you wipe them, and they can still win) - skirmish win becomes disabled (until you uncap the enemy's points).
That's it. Everything else can be won by completely ignoring conditions and skirmishing, and no surprise! - in the overwhelming case, that is precisely what happens.
Yes, you can rush the whatever. That happens how frequently? 1 in 25 maybe? 1 in 50? Skirmish game mode should be removed precisely because every other game mode is skirmish in practical effect.
And the grand irony, that people choose skirmish because they just want to fight (aka hide as far back and not actually fight) and don't want to deal with complications, is that those same people are usually BEST SERVED PICKING NOT-SKIRMISH.
Pick dom - you know where EVERYONE is head and where the fight is.
Pick Conq - it TELLS you where the enemy is and has been. You know where the fight is.
Pick Assualt - draw a stright line from one base to the other. The fight is at the mid point.
Pick skirmish? man, they could be anywhere. Let's wander around until someone decides to scout, or we get ambushed.
to be fair, pick escort is largely the same - let's wander around until someone decides to scout, or one side wins.
Imagine is scout mode in FW (overwhelmingly results 4v4 skirmish) didn't have intel spots to collect strewn randomly all over the map that you had to find (aka pure skirmish). You'd have far fewer fights.

This mode made me think of Hawken. I was so disappointed when my mech didn't re-spawn at base, because that would have made the objective more important than kills and it would have made the mode very different to skirmish if there was 24 mechs on the battlefield trying to wreck something.
