I own and play a lot of different mechs ... and I don't play MWO as often as many folks seem to do ... I have about 4500 matches played altogether

That's me as well. I'm just shy of 4,000 matches myself.

In the spirit of the OP, I'm looking at the results and trying to see trends. I'll be damned if I can see much of any though. Lots of mediocre mechs are a lot of the apparent favorites. No one yet posted "my top played mechs are a Hunchback IIc, Night Gyr and Kodak for example.

I wonder if the results would be significantly changed if we could filter by time period? I mean for some of the old farts, I would have expected to see some Cataphract 3Ds and Victors with high numbers from the pop tart era; for newer folks and overall I expected to see more meta mechs, etc.

I see a lot of folks with Black Jacks, and Jagger DDs but were those numbers just from the over structured era ( Black Jacks) or are they a consistent favorite due to some other reason (high hard points and quirks as they are for me). Regardless they haven't been known as being particularly good for a while and Jaggers are oft mentioned for having terrible hit boxes yet multiple people have them listed above as one of their most played mechs. Lots of hunches and Catapults too. Nostalgia driven? Quirk driven? Rescale driven? Etc. Fun to think about.

I suppose its impossible to know. Still its interesting to see folks results and consider.

Because those are newer mechs and expensive mechs. My most played mechs are Clanners.

Bah. Kodaks have been in the game for a year (?). But even forgetting the newer clan meta, I would have expected to see a lot more Warhammers, Grasshoppers, etc. on the IS side and more Timberwolves from the clan side (yes a few people above have them prominently listed but not nearly what I would have expected).

Anyway. Still think the results folks are posting is interesting and it would be cool to be able to sort them by time frame. Hell I'd even be interested to hear folks guesses/thoughts on why their top played mechs are their topped played mechs...especially where their top played mech is most certainly not a "meta" mech.

The BJ-1DC was the second 'Mech I ever bought and the JM6-DD was the third, back and n early 2014. I bought the latter because it looked like a bigger version of the former and I really, really like Blackjacks. I like the weight, I like that it can do well with either engine type because of that weight, I love the cockpit, I like the bouncy walk it has, I like that it looks like a somewhat logical war machine. I did not ever wittingly buy them because they were meta solutions, they are just cool to me.

That's what I'm talking about right there. Reading about what drives a player to play a mech. Like the folks above with the Cicada love. The Atlas RS. Etc. Some are pretty obvious, (Centurions have been around so long and so good at what they do, etc.) but others not so much. That sort of personal motivation(s) is interesting to me. It ought to be interesting to PGI as well.

The trouble with 400+ mechs is that one's attentions get spread, so it's less than one would think.

Yea, it is interesting to see, which is why i made the post :) I was really curious what ends up being most played, despite meta and such.

For me personally, if you look at my most played.. each account you can kinda tell where i started, Timbies on clan, and HBK's then catapults on IS.. Then when i move on to other mechs, it seams like i don't play them as much as i did for the first. For me it was sad not to see death's kneel on the list.. Ohh so close.. If i played it just one night i could add it to the list! :)

Being able to sort by time played etc would be nice. My current stats show my catapults as most played. Mostly due to how well the mech performs for me and I love the cockpit design. The cats always had decent speed and maneuverability with the jump jets. Hit boxes are pretty good and its able to shield with the ears. Most people think that as a lrm boat it is easy prey but the med lasers, speed and torso twist make it good at fighting off lights.

Between the C1 for lrm and srm and the K2 for AC and lasers I can do almost any combination of weapons I want to. They also survived the re-scale of doom actually getting improved by it unlike the lights which just got another nerf bat to the legs and ct.

i'm guessing the reason why the newest Cat BBisn't in my stats is because I haven't been able to buy it yet so for now the BB is in sixth place out of my catapult collection. The stats are from current and not archived.

Nearly 7,000 drops, 167 mechs total. Not many ever sold.

KING CRAB KGC-000 250
DIRE WOLF DWF-PRIME 231
DRAGON DRG-1N 169
BATTLEMASTER BLR-1S 157
GRASSHOPPER GHR-5H 148
GRASSHOPPER GHR-5J 142
RAVEN RVN-3L 136
RAVEN RVN-H 132
WARHAMMER WHM-BW 129
MARAUDER MAD-5D 126
WARHAMMER WHM-6R 110
TREBUCHET TBT-LG 109

From the archive

TREBUCHET TBT-7M 142 + 16 current
CATAPHRACT CTF-4X 141 + 48 current
CATAPHRACT CTF-IM 136 + 83 current
TREBUCHET TBT-7K 110

I guess I change mechs a lot, as my list is dominated by my first mechs. My progression of mechs went TBT-->CTF-->FS9-->RVN-->Clan wave 1-->TOO MANY CBILLS.

What drives me is pretty simple - lore. Looking at my most played mechs, in almost every case I chose them because of lore. A distant second consideration was play style. If the mech fits my desired play style, I'm more likely to play it.

Heavy Metal - Rhonda Snord (clan born warrior)
Gargoyle - Ulric Kerensky
Dire Wolf - Natasha Kerensky
Mad Dog and Hellbringer - Joanna
Timber Wolf and Summoner - Aidan Pryde
Jenner - Mech I used in Crescent Hawks Inception
Marauder - Grayson Carlyle
Victor - Named after Victor Davion
Centurion - Kai Allard-Liao, plus my first mech in TT

Need I say more???

Mine was TT nostalgia (Quickdraws) after that...just random chance.
